Universal has already shown us advance looks at Wicked: Part 2

As a long-time fan of the original “Wicked” musical, I must say that watching Part 1 unfold on the big screen has been nothing short of magical! The cinematic adaptation has perfectly captured the charm, wit, and emotional depth that made the stage production such a classic. However, as much as I’m enjoying this first installment, I can’t help but feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning when Part 2 drops in 2025!

Currently, “Wicked” is playing in cinemas and it’s doing exceptionally well. Critics are raving about it, audiences are enjoying it too, and it’s bringing in a lot of revenue. Unfortunately, we have to endure a year-long wait until “Wicked: Part 2” arrives at theaters to conclude this unique retelling of “The Wizard of Oz”.

Indeed, the movie you see in theaters now is titled “Wicked: Part 1“, which brings to life the initial act of the widely acclaimed stage musical. The sequel, Part 2, will follow suit by adapting Act 2 and wrapping up Elphaba and Glinda’s tales. Interestingly, Universal shared a few sneak peeks from “Wicked: Part 2” in the first teaser for “Part 1“, which was unveiled back in February. You can catch it above.

Here’s the stuff the teaser gives away, but beware that there are SPOILERS involved:

  • The second shot of the teaser is an image of Elphaba putting her hand on a pile of golden bricks, one imagines the same ones used to make the yellow-brick road. We now know that it was her idea to make the road yellow in the first place.
  • At 0:30, we see Glinda wearing a wedding dress. In the stage musical Wicked, she plans to get married to Fiyero.
  • At 0:38, we see a few shots of Dorothy, the hero of the original The Wizard of Oz, speaking to the wizard alongside her companions. Wicked is mostly about Elphaba and Glinda, and Dorothy and company will be a bigger part of the second movie; if it progresses like the play, their story will play out in the background. In these shots, Dorothy is wearing silver slippers rather than ruby slippers, which is more true to the original book.
  • At 0:50, we see a shot of Glinda in her magical bubble, but in the city of Oz this time.

This shot is not found in the initial film; it might have simply been omitted.

In the official publications, these are the pictures that have been shared. However, if you know where to search, you can find small glimpses of images from Wicked: Part 2 on the internet. We won’t display them here, but feel free to explore them if you’re curious.
