“Unique” crime thriller with 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating confirms UK release date

Stars of Ready or Not and Strange Darling, Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner, are in a new romantic crime thriller called Carolina Caroline. The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, tells the story of a couple who fall in love while committing a series of crimes, similar to Bonnie and Clyde. It’s been confirmed that the movie will be released in the UK soon.

The film, directed by Adam Carter Rehmeier (who previously collaborated with Gallner on the acclaimed movie Dinner in America), centers around Caroline (Weaving). She longs to escape her stifling small-town existence, but is tied down by her responsibility of caring for her father (played by Jon Gries of The White Lotus). Her life takes a turn when she meets Oliver (Gallner), a charismatic drifter who introduces her to a life of crime.

Caroline is now more skilled at crime than her mentor, and she’s fully embracing the excitement, even though problems are clearly brewing.

I’m so excited for Carolina Caroline! It’s coming to Sky Cinema and NOW on June 20th if you have a Cinema membership. And if you’re in the US, you can even see it in theaters starting June 5th. I can’t wait to watch it!

The film has received perfect reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, earning a 100% rating based on 21 critic reviews. RogerEbert.com praised it as a captivating “romantic crime thriller” that expertly mixes sensuality and heartbreak.

Hugo Weaving and Alexander Gallner have incredible chemistry, which really makes the movie work. Kyra Sedgwick also delivers a memorable cameo performance, as noted by the San Jose Mercury News.

Critics praised Carolina Caroline as a charming and energetic road movie. Asynchronous Media highlighted the strong connection between the lead actors and the film’s lighthearted script, calling it a solid addition to the director’s work on American stories. Shade Studios simply described it as a delightful and exciting adventure.

Okay, so this romance isn’t just fluffy – it gets really intense. IndieWire says that when Caroline and Oliver finally face the truth, the pain they both feel actually leads to some seriously dramatic and even violent moments. It’s way more than just a sad breakup!

Carolina Caroline is released on Sky Cinema and NOW on 20 June.
