Union J’s Jaymi Hensley issues heartbreaking update on fiancé’s funeral after he plummeted 30ft to his death from a hotel window
As I read through this heartfelt tribute and the remarkable journey of Jaymi Hensley, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of admiration for the resilience, talent, and spirit he embodies. His life is a testament to the power of dreams, the strength of determination, and the magic that happens when one follows their passion.
On the eve of bidding farewell to his fiancé, Oliver Marmon, Union J singer Jaymi Hensley expressed deep feelings of missing his loved one dearly.
On August 12th this year, at around 11:30 PM, Oliver, aged 33, tragically fell approximately 30 feet from the third floor of a three-star Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northampton, and passed away.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and police officers, worked tirelessly to revive the hairdresser, yet unfortunately, they were unable to do so, as he was declared deceased at the location about an hour afterward.
Jaymi spent more than a decade with Oliver and the pair were due to tie the knot on Tuesday.
On a post made to Instagram on Monday, the X Factor star announced that the day had become the date of his partner’s funeral service.
“This is the first picture from the night we met! If all had gone as planned, today would have marked the happiest day of our lives, with us exchanging vows and saying ‘I do.’ However, it seems that instead, I will be bidding you farewell.
‘I will never be ready, I miss you so much! I love you more than I’ve ever loved any one.’
This month, an investigation into my demise was initiated and, graciously postponed until March 12th, was I, under the guidance of Assistant Coroner Hassan Shah for Northamptonshire.
He mentioned that the preliminary reason for the deceased’s passing appears to be head trauma, with more tests needed for confirmation, and the body has since been returned to his loved ones.
Hairdresser Oliver and Jaymi have been together since 2009, officially becoming engaged in 2014, a time when they were clearly smitten.
They crossed paths at the age of eighteen, and more recently, they’ve been posting happy selfies from their adventures in Norway and France on Instagram.
On September 24, the couple were planned to get married last year. Previously, Jaymi had referred to Oliver as his “pillar of strength” during their 14-year partnership, using a quote from the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Ever since the day that my beloved hero, Oliver, left us in August, my heart has been shattered into a thousand pieces. His parents, who adored him just as I did, have paid an emotional tribute to the kind-hearted and affectionate hairdresser he was.
Julie, Oliver’s mom, along with her husband Steve Peacock, shared their deep sorrow: “It is beyond words to describe the anguish and sorrow we experience from losing our beloved youngest child, Oliver, affectionately known as ‘Olly’ by his friends.
‘I can’t believe I am having to write this. No mother should have to do this.
My bond with Oliver was incredibly unique; he was more than just a friend to me. We shared daily conversations without fail. He affectionately referred to me as ‘mummy,’ and he often addressed me as his ‘guardian angel.’
Oliver was incredibly thoughtful, affectionate, gentle, and selfless, often putting the needs of others ahead of his own. His craft as a hairdresser was not just a profession but a deeply felt passion that he approached with great dedication.
Lately, he’s been helping his stepfather Steve with gardening, which he adores. His spiritual side resonates with nature, making him cherish the great outdoors.
In every heart I’ve encountered, he left a profound mark; each interaction with this extraordinary man sparked an instant affection. To me, he was more than just a mentor or friend – he was my cherished ‘son’, as Steve so eloquently put it.
‘I will miss my little Oliver so much and don’t know how I will go on without him.
‘His entire family, which includes his brothers Ben and James, his sister Alex, his Aunt Loraine, Uncle Simon, and cousin Sophie, suffered a heartbreaking loss.’
“Dearest Oliver, I can hardly believe I’m saying this. If only I could have given my life instead of yours.
‘I am struggling with every emotion you can think of, grief, anger, guilt, the list goes on.
It’s clear that your understanding of being cherished was evident. I felt immense pride in all your accomplishments, and they surpassed even my wildest dreams. You’ve visited locales that I can merely imagine.
Regardless of what you set your heart on, you have always managed to succeed. In your youth, you excelled not only as a gifted athlete in sports but also as a musician, and eventually, you found your dream profession as a hairstylist. You’ve collected medals and accolades in gymnastics and hairdressing alike.
‘Although your lifespan was limited, you managed to cram an astonishing amount of living into those years. Your compassionate spirit, with its soft and radiant nature, made you not only lovely on the outside but truly stunning within.’
Jaymi gained popularity when he appeared on The X Factor as a member of the three-piece group, Triple J, alongside Josh Cuthbert and JJ Hamblett.
The group was established in the year 2011, however, it wasn’t until the next year that George Shelley became a member after the judges made the suggestion. Following this, they were known as Union J.
Union J finished the contest that eventually went to James Arthur, with Sony Music later signing them to a record deal.
They were initially signed to RCA Records and released their first single in June 2013.
This group attained a moderate level of achievement, with popular songs like “Carry You,” “Beautiful Life,” and “Loving You Is Easy.” Their latest single from 2014 peaked at the second spot on the music charts.
As two integral members of our band, George and Josh bid their farewells in 2019, marking the formal conclusion of our musical journey at that time. However, over the past few years, I’ve been part of efforts aimed at organizing reunion shows to bring back the magic we once shared on stage.
In a surprising statement on social media last year (2022), Jaymi revealed his decision to no longer participate. He expressed deep concern, stating that he felt unable to continue watching the legacy he had nurtured for over a decade deteriorate any more.
“To all Union J enthusiasts, sadly, I must inform you that I’m ending my participation in Union J.
Ever since the beginning, it’s my dedicated fanbase that has filled me with affection, inspiration, and encouragement, making me a powerful contributor to the band.
2021 was an exceptional year for me, as I rejoined the band on stage and had the pleasure of performing for all of you once more.
Jaymi went on to say: “Afterwards, I dared to imagine all potential outcomes, but none of them came true due to several factors. Out of affection and regard for my fans’ family and upholding my artistic principles, I can’t stand by as the legacy I’ve worked hard to maintain for a decade deteriorates any more.
“From now on, I’ll channel my talents in artistry, honesty, and innovation towards personal projects. Instead of dedicating all my energy to Union J, I want to create new music that we can experience together.
