As a biographer, I am deeply moved by the life of Jaymi Hensley, whose journey from Union J to standing on his own is nothing short of inspiring. His story reminds me of a phoenix rising from the ashes, forging a new path amidst trials and tribulations.

George Shelley, a member of the band Union J, expressed his condolences on the day of Oliver Marmon’s funeral, who was engaged to George’s former bandmate, Jaymi Hensley.

33-year-old hairstylist, Oliver, tragically passed away following a fall from the third floor of a three-star Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northampton, on August 12th, around 11:30 PM this year.

Oliver and singer Jaymi had planned to get married on Tuesday, 14 years following their meeting and falling in love.

But tragically, that date will now mark Oliver’s funeral.

In remembrance of Oliver before the funeral service, George posted on Instagram some photos of his dear friend, expressing in his caption, “Today we bid adieu, but only temporarily. You are deeply missed.

On the fateful day when Oliver met a tragic end from a fall, emergency responders and law enforcement personnel valiantly attempted to revive him. However, unfortunately, they were unable to do so and he was declared deceased an hour later right at the site of the incident.

Jaymi spent more than a decade with Oliver and the pair were due to tie the knot on Tuesday.

On Monday, the X Factor star announced that his partner’s funeral would be held on the specified date, as he shared on Instagram.

“The very first picture was taken on the night we met! What was supposed to be our most joyful day tomorrow – exchanging our vows and saying ‘I do’ – is now going to be the day I bid you farewell.

‘I will never be ready, I miss you so much! I love you more than I’ve ever loved any one.’

This month, an inquiry into the death of Oliver was initiated, and it was postponed until March 12 by the assistant coroner of Northamptonshire, Hassan Shah.

He stated that the preliminary reason for the deceased’s death appears to be head traumas, though more tests are needed to confirm this, and the body has since been returned to his relatives.

Hairstylist Oliver and his partner, Jaymi, have been together since 2009. In 2014, they announced their decision to get engaged.

18-year-old versions of them encountered each other, and lately, they’ve been posting grinning selfies from their journeys to Norway and France on Instagram.

On September 24, the couple had planned to get married. Last year, Jaymi referred to Oliver as his “pillar of strength” during their 14-year long relationship, using a quote from the late Queen Elizabeth II.

In August, Oliver unfortunately passed away, leaving his family deeply saddened. His parents honored him by acknowledging Oliver as a compassionate and affectionate hairstylist.

Julie and Steve Peacock, Oliver’s mother and stepfather respectively, shared their profound sorrow: ‘No words can capture the depth of the despair and anguish we experience at the tragic loss of our beloved young son, Oliver, who was fondly known as Olly by his friends.’

‘I can’t believe I am having to write this. No mother should have to do this.

My bond with Oliver was incredibly unique; he was more than just a friend to me, he was like family. We communicated daily and there was this special term of endearment he had for me – he often referred to me as his “guardian angel.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but gush about the remarkable individual that is Oliver. His heart was as boundless as the ocean, filled to the brim with care, love, and an unspoken quietude that was simply captivating. He had a knack for putting others first, always ensuring their needs were met before his own.

Lately, I’ve found myself delving into the world of gardening alongside my stepfather Steve, and I must confess, there’s an undeniable charm to it that has me hooked. My spirit is deeply connected with nature, and every moment spent in the great outdoors feels like a rejuvenating breath of fresh air.

1) ‘He made a significant impact on numerous people, and those who crossed paths with him found themselves enamored by him. Steve often spoke of Oliver as if he were his own son.’

‘I will miss my little Oliver so much and don’t know how I will go on without him.

‘Such a devastating loss to all our family including his brothers Ben and James and sister Alex, as well as his Auntie Loraine, Uncle Simon and cousin Sophie.’

My dearest Olly, it is hard for me to find the words. I never thought I would be writing a letter like this. If only there was a way I could give up my own life to have spared yours. This is Vanessa and Leigh, your dad and stepmum, Marmon.

‘I am struggling with every emotion you can think of, grief, anger, guilt, the list goes on.

As a fervent admirer, I couldn’t help but realize that the adoration you received was palpable. The pride I felt for your accomplishments knew no bounds. Your journeys to locales I could merely fantasize about were awe-inspiring beyond words.

Regardless of what you set your heart on, you’ve consistently managed to attain success. In your youth, you were a versatile individual, excelling not only as an athlete in sports like gymnastics but also as a musician, and ultimately, realizing your dream as a hairdresser. You garnered medals and accolades in both gymnastics and hairdressing.

‘Though your time on earth was tragically brief, you managed to cram an astonishing amount of living into those few years. Your compassionate spirit, pure as a spring breeze, made you not only lovely to look at but truly radiant within.’

Back in the day, I was thrilled to be a member of the dynamic trio, Triple J, alongside Josh Cuthbert and JJ Hamblett. It all started when we auditioned for The X Factor together, and that’s where our journey to fame began!

The group was established in the year 2011, however, they didn’t participate in the show until the next year. It was during this time that George Shelley was invited to join the band by the judges. After this addition, they were later known as Union J.

Union J finished fourth in a contest that ultimately belonged to James Arthur, who later secured a recording deal with Sony Music.

They were initially signed to RCA Records and released their first single in June 2013.

They’ve had a decent amount of chart success with songs like “Carry You,” “Beautiful Life,” and “Loving You Is Easy.” Their latest single from 2014 even made it to the second spot on the charts.

In 2019, the band formally disbanded after George and Josh decided to part ways from the group. However, in more recent times, there have been efforts made to arrange reunion concerts.

Instead, in 2022, Jaymi made an unexpected statement on social media, expressing his decision to step away from the events. He explained that he felt unable to continue watching the tradition he had worked diligently on for ten years erode any more.

“Dear Union J fans, it’s with deep regret that I must inform you I’m no longer part of Union J.

From the very beginning, my devoted fanbase has provided me with affection, inspiration, and encouragement, serving as the primary catalyst behind my relentless energy within our musical group.

Reflecting on the past year, I can confidently say that it has been the pinnacle of my experiences, stepping back onto the stage alongside my talented companions and once more basking in the energy of the audience.

Jaymi went on to say: “Afterward, I dared to dream of every potential outcome, but it didn’t come to pass due to multiple factors. Out of affection and regard for my fans’ family and upholding my artist’s honor, I can’t stand by and allow the legacy I’ve nurtured for a decade to deteriorate any more.

“From now on, I’ll channel my talents of artistry, honesty, and creativity into personal projects. Meanwhile, I’ll redirect the passion I’ve always invested in Union J towards creating shared experiences through music and art.
