Unforgotten actor’s BBC series won’t return despite strong Rotten Tomatoes score

BBC series Wreck will not return despite a strong critical response.

The series featuring Jodie Tyack from “Unforgotten” first aired on BBC Three in the year 2022, and its second season was shown not long after that.

Nevertheless, creator Ryan J Brown has verified that the series will not be renewed for a third season. He stated that the network “terminated” or “killed” it instead.

In response to a fan’s query about a new season, he tweeted from X: “Unfortunately, not at this time. I apologize! Although the BBC put it aside, never rule out anything completely…

In September, Brown announced on social networks that the show was concluding, clarifying that there would be no more seasons of “Wreck“.

“The BBC drama team made that decision a few months ago,” he wrote.

In November, he stated, “It’s regrettable that we didn’t finish the trilogy, but it’s incredible to witness the impact the series has had on those who were able to discover it – against all odds!

Digital Spy has reached out to the BBC for comment.

The story, titled “Wreck“, centers around a young man named Jamie (Oscar Kennedy), who embarks on a voyage aboard a cruise liner in an attempt to discover the facts surrounding his sister’s mysterious vanishing.

The performance on Rotten Tomatoes from the audience was overwhelmingly favorable, earning a 95% positive rating. However, opinions among critics were somewhat divided, with a rating of 69%.

The show garnered special recognition for its portrayal of diverse sexual orientations, with lead actor James Phoon earlier discussing the significance of this representation in an interview with DS.

In this series, the numerous characters who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community are portrayed as complex individuals transcending their labels – reflecting the diversity within the community, encompassing race, gender identity, and other categories. They’re depicted as well-rounded people, tackling a variety of themes. (He said this.)

Wreck aired on BBC Three and is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
