Unexpected Love: SBS Star Karla Grant’s Shocking Romance with Notorious Reality Star!

We’ve seen plenty of celebrity ‘odd couples’ over the years.

As a lifestyle expert, I must admit that when whispers started circulating about the beloved SBS presenter, Karla Grant (previously married to renowned writer and broadcaster Stan Grant), being courted by a notorious figure from reality TV, it seemed almost unbelievable to me.

As a devoted admirer, I must say that she shines as a versatile titan in the realm of quality journalism. As for him, let me choose my words carefully – he appears to have a knack for self-advocacy, if you will.

This person is often referred to as “Australia’s most beloved celebrity” (it’s worth noting that he has made this claim himself), and at one point, he staged a fake romantic relationship with another man for the sake of earning money from tabloids.

Yet, contrary to his words, ‘feel free to write about me as you wish, just include me in your writing,’ it appears he displays a kinder, even romantic side when out of public view.

I wholeheartedly believe that their bond is authentic and free from any manipulation aimed at regaining fame, it’s genuinely heartfelt between them, just as a die-hard fan would attest.

Did you guess who we were talking about? Yep, it’s none other than Nasser Sultan.

Originally a music manager who later became a personal trainer for the over-50s, this individual gained popularity on Married At First Sight in 2018. Remarkably, even though many of his co-stars from that time have slipped into obscurity, he continues to grab attention with occasional news headlines.

He and Karla have been quietly dating for a while.

Nasser’s understated demeanor suggests that the situation is significant since in typical circumstances, he wouldn’t hesitate to publicly announce a well-known romantic interest.

The couple was spotted together on Wednesday leaving an apartment in Sydney. 

Wearing a vibrant set of floral board shorts and a cool blue T-shirt, I found myself beaming, much like a contented cat with a fresh catch, as I strolled hand-in-hand with Karla. She, on the other hand, exuded effortless elegance in her cream linen trousers and sleek black top.

Nasser confirmed the romance to Daily Mail Australia reporter Ali Daher this week.

‘We’ve known each other for four years, to be honest,’ he said.

Afterward, we ran into each other at a Maxim event, and our hearts simply aligned. And that was the story. It felt like love at first sight, but certainly not the kind you’d find on ‘Married At First Sight’.

Expressing his admiration, Nasser said, “She is kind, intelligent, refined, highly educated and esteemed in her field. She’s genuine, not pretentious, and not found on social media platforms like Instagram.

Indeed, whereas Nasser has been in the limelight since his stint on Married at First Sights over seven years back, Karla is recognized for her roles as a host, producer, and journalist on the SBS national Indigenous news program, Living Black.

She is career-focused and rarely uses social media. 

Nasser is well aware that there’s a significant gap between the two; he even compares them to things as distinct as chalk and cheese.

Nasser mentioned, “I adore the red carpet, but she seems to prefer a more understated style. However, she’s incredibly kind, generous, and supportive, allowing me to express myself freely – even in my craziest moments!

Karla said in a statement: ‘Nasser and I have known each other for four years.

‘We met at a movie screening where Nass introduced himself and said how much he admired my work.

At a gathering towards the end of last year, our paths crossed. It became apparent that we shared a bond and mutual passions. We’re enthusiasts for cinema, theater, and music events alike, and we both savor exceptional cuisine and traveling to new places.

Nasser stands out uniquely. His attention, compassion, and thoughtfulness shine through, especially towards those dear to him. It’s evident that he’s always ready to lend a hand to his friends.

‘He understands how much my work means to me and is very supportive.

‘Our union was very unexpected, but it is growing into something very special.’

In the past, Karla was in a 16-year marriage with Stan Grant. Together, they have three kids. However, their separation made headlines in 2000 when Stan left Karla for his co-worker Tracey Holmes, who became known as ‘Tracey the Wrecker’ by tabloids.

I, being an ardent follower, couldn’t help but be swept away by the whirlwind of publicity that surrounded the embattled duo. Faced with a scandal, they both tendered their resignations on the same day, as Seven management felt uneasy about them cohabiting. Eventually, they would relocate to Hong Kong and spend an astounding 14 years of their lives in Asia.

They married in secret at Whale Beach, Sydney, in 2001 and welcomed a son, Jesse.

It appears that any past disagreements between Karla and Tracey have been set aside, since they both joined forces in 2023 to back Stan during a staff demonstration at ABC, opposing the way the public broadcaster managed the racist harassment he encountered online.

Meanwhile, Karla is apparently doing her bit to tame Nasser’s wild side.

I owe my newfound tranquility to her, but rest assured, I’m as mischievous as ever! Let me tell you, I’m absolutely astounded – and I mean it sincerely – by the incredible turn of events in this whole situation,” I expressed.

Since his time on MAFS, it’s been revealed that Nasser, formerly married to Gabrielle Bartlett on the Nine dating program, but who split from her prior to final vows, has confessed to creating incidents to keep himself in the spotlight.

Previously, Nasser openly admitted to Daily Mail Australia that he had orchestrated a false romantic relationship with another individual, primarily to generate attention.

He claimed that he found someone at random, made it appear as if we were in a relationship, and together we took the photos. Within just an hour and a half, those pictures garnered a staggering one million views, according to him.

‘That’s what made my name get out there and then there was an interest from the media.’
