Underrated 2023 Sci-Fi Movie Arrives on Prime Video Soon

As a movie fan, I’m excited to hear that Prime Video is finally bringing Gareth Edwards’ The Creator to streaming! I originally saw it in theaters back in September 2023, and it’s a really thought-provoking sci-fi action film starring John David Washington. It dives into the whole AI world and what could happen if things go wrong with artificial intelligence – definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Critics generally liked it when it came out, and I think a lot of people will enjoy it when it hits streaming too.

The Creator begins streaming on Prime Video in December

The sci-fi film The Creator will be available to stream on Prime Video starting December 20, 2025. Released in theaters in 2023, the movie earned $104.3 million worldwide on a production budget of $80 million.

Rotten Tomatoes reports a 67% rating from critics and a 75% audience score for the film. Metacritic gives it a metascore of 63 and a user score of 6.3, meaning reviews are generally positive.

As a movie fan, I was fascinated to learn where they shot this film! Most of it was filmed on location across Southeast Asia and Japan – Thailand, Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Japan were all featured. But apparently, they did some studio work too, with reports of scenes being filmed at Pinewood Studios in England.

In 2070, fifteen years after an AI-triggered nuclear explosion destroyed Los Angeles and began a brutal war between humans and artificial intelligence, the story follows Joshua, a former special forces soldier mourning the death of his wife, Maya. The U.S. Army hires Joshua for a dangerous mission: to locate and eliminate The Creator, a shadowy figure who has developed a weapon with the potential to end the war – and wipe out humanity.

Gareth Edwards not only directed the film but also collaborated with Chris Weitz on the screenplay and created the original story. He shared producing credits with Arnon Milchan, Jim Spencer, and Kiri Hart. The film’s score was composed by Hans Zimmer, and Greig Fraser and Oren Soffer served as cinematographers.

The Creator features a talented cast including John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Allison Janney, and Ken Watanabe.
