As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for vertical-scrolling shmups and a deep appreciation for the intricacies of Japanese arcade classics, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming re-release of Under Defeat! The original game left an indelible mark on me, its fast-paced action, relentless waves of enemy fighters, and retina-searing 3D graphics etching a vivid memory in my gaming psyche.
In December, it was announced that the classic vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up game, Under Defeat from Clear River Games, will be re-released once more. Interestingly, this version will include all downloadable content (DLC) as a standard feature for the first time in western markets. Previously, an HD version was released for Xbox 360 in 2012.
In an alternate timeline where total war is the norm, the game “Under Defeat” unfolds. This game was developed by City Connection after the original studio G.Rev, under the guidance of renowned shooter port experts Takehiro Eda and Zerodiv Fukushima Factory.
This game offers intense, action-packed gameplay where you pilot a heavily armed helicopter, firing at endless hordes of adversaries over a dynamic isometric battlefield with stunning 3D visuals that won’t strain your eyes. The three modes will be available, along with the option for local two-player cooperative play.
In Arcade Mode, you can recreate the classic 4:3 aspect ratio arcade feel. Alternatively, try out the current widescreen version of the game in Normal Mode, or go for the enhanced New Order Mode+ which includes a ‘Warning Gauge’ feature that offers both risks and rewards, along with other extra features.
On the 5th of December, Defeat will be available for play on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
