“Unbearably tense” and “chilling” horror with Elisabeth Moss gets new UK streaming home

The thriller “The Invisible Man,” featuring Elisabeth Moss in an unnerving and spine-tingling performance, has secured a fresh streaming platform for viewers in the United Kingdom.

2020’s movie, modeled after HG Wells’s 1897 novel with the same title, features “The Handmaid’s Tale” actress playing Cecilia Kass – a character who has just escaped from an abusive relationship.

In her efforts to start anew, Cecilia finds herself questioning whether her former partner, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, is secretly stalking her, leading to a dangerous game of hide-and-seek as she wonders if he has the power to become invisible.

Leigh Whannell’s sci-fi horror film, starring Aldis Hodge and Storm Reid as supporting actors, can now be watched on Prime Video in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The movie will be available for streaming from July 4th.

In our assessment, Whannell’s movie version was praised as a “thrilling”, “frightening”, and “shiver-inducing reimagining” of Wells’s book. We pointed out that the core ideas gave the film a sense of relevance and realism.

Empire Magazine concurred, labeling the movie as “agonizingly taut.” They further noted that the understated technique was powerfully impactful, serving as a testament to the fact that not all horror films need to be chaotic in order to instill fear.

The movie titled “The Invisible Man” has been highly praised by most critics, boasting a remarkable approval rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 422 reviews, largely due to the acclaimed performance delivered by Moss.

In this review by Newsweek, Whannell’s effective use of silence and open spaces is highlighted. However, it’s Moss who convincingly carries off the fresh, deliberately somber approach to a traditionally humorous monster movie concept.

In the review by the Austin Chronicle, it was pointed out that Moss’s performance was crucial in maintaining the cohesion of the movie “The Invisible Man,” as it seamlessly transitioned from horror to social commentary, action, and ultimately, revenge. Meanwhile, The Australian praised her performance as “excellent.

Prior to the movie’s premiere, Moss shared her insights with Digital Spy, discussing her affinity for portraying “grim” characters. She elaborated: “I find them entertaining and demanding, and personally, I prefer engaging in wild antics rather than appearing content on screen.

The Invisible Man is available to stream on Prime Video.
