As for raw power and force, I’m no match to many heroes in the Marvel Universe. Yet, my knack for strategy often turns the tide against even mightier adversaries. This is exactly what happened in The Ultimates #14 by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri, where Steve Rogers discovered a significant vulnerability while battling a character frequently linked with the X-Men.
In this scenario, a multitude of corporate wrongdoers such as Roxxon, Hammer Weapons, Alchemax, among others, unite against The Ultimates. To achieve their goal, they enlist the help of Emma Frost, who is known as the Ultimate White Queen and has ties with the Hellfire Club. In this universe, she manages a school that takes in troubled youths, but her exceptional students happen to be Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.
The two siblings are sent to challenge Captain America and Hawkeye during an attack on a Roxxon oil refinery. Initially, it appears that the Ultimates are in over their heads. However, Captain America manages to shift the balance when he identifies a significant weakness in Quicksilver’s high speeds.
Ultimate Quicksilver can’t hear at high speeds
After defeating Scarlet Witch and infuriating Quicksilver, Captain America estimates the speed at which the speedster moves. Since Quicksilver can’t hear him when he’s traveling faster than sound, he instructs Hawkeye to fire at an oil pipe while he keeps Quicksilver occupied. This action causes oil to spatter across the battlefield, affecting everyone present.
It appears that this issue proves to be more challenging for Quicksilver compared to others, as not only does he become deaf while moving at high speeds, but also each of his actions creates a substantial amount of friction.
As a result, he suddenly ignites and the air surrounding him starts to combust, leaving him completely clueless about the situation. In the end, Quicksilver exhausts himself so much that he collapses, with Captain America not needing to physically touch him at all.
The Ultimates #14 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
