At this moment, the Aspen Art Museum is displaying “The Rainbow Body“, which is the latest solo presentation by contemporary artist Ugo Rondinone.
Rondinone’s exhibition, famed for its diverse and vibrant works, turns the entire second-story gallery of the museum into a kaleidoscopic playground, painted in bright, fluorescent colors that blend harmoniously with the displayed art. Scattered throughout the space are 113 lifelike statues of dancers, all at rest or on pause, inviting viewers to explore deeper into the show’s theme – the complex symbolism and fleeting magic of the rainbow.
Rondinone views rainbows as a symbolic link between all people and everything around us, highlighting nature’s inherent bond with humanity. The exhibition’s name draws inspiration from a significant Tibetan Buddhist ritual, where an individual’s body transforms into light upon death – an extraordinary event that is reached only by diligent practitioners, representing the pinnacle of spiritual awakening and enlightenment.
For the very first time, a decade-old collection of three unique series by Ugo Rondinone are being displayed together at the Aspen Art Museum in an exhibition. The exhibit titled “the rainbow body” will be on display until March 30, 2025.
