Ugly Duckling

As a die-hard admirer putting words to my feelings, I can relate to Eva Longoria when she shares that her journey into acting was a response to feeling like the ‘unconventional swan’ among my own family circle.

Despite being a renowned actress on “Desperate Housewives” at age 50 and known for her impeccable beauty, she herself admitted that among her three sisters, she was not considered the most beautiful.

In a recent chat with Today, the actress revealed that she chose to emphasize her humorous and intelligent side during that period, as she was open about expressing her emotions.

She said she stood out in her family because she felt like an outsider or misfit, similar to the “ugly duckling” story. Then, with a touch of humor, she added that there’s written evidence to back up her statement if required.

The star of “The Only Murders In The Building” commented: ‘My three siblings share a resemblance. All of them have blond hair.’

I realized that I wasn’t considered the most attractive, so I decided to focus on being witty and intelligent instead.

Born as the youngest among four sisters, she spent her childhood rearing chickens on a sprawling ranch located in the heart of Texas.

She explained that every morning, they needed to fetch the eggs, and also milk the cow for the milk that would be used in their coffee and cereal.

As a seasoned lifestyle advisor, let me share my personal journey. After completing my studies in the captivating field of kinesiology, I was fortunate enough to attend Texas A&M University. Interestingly, the scholarships I earned from a beauty pageant I had won played a significant role in financing my academic pursuits, making every step towards that degree even more rewarding.

Her participation in beauty pageants eventually paved the way for her arrival in Hollywood, as she recounted: “I touch down in Hollywood and it’s like a whirlwind. Suddenly, I found myself thinking, ‘I believe I’ll become an actress.’

Back in the day, my breakthrough came when Desperate Housewives, a series that spanned eight seasons from 2004 to 2012, catapulted me into every household’s recognition.

It’s not the first time the star has opened up about feeling ugly as a child.

In the year 2008, she shared on Channel 4 with Richard and Judy that she stood out among her family due to having black hair and dark skin, as she was the one with the darkest complexion.

‘All my sisters were light blondes with hazel eyes. They used to call me ugly duckling.’

She went on to say: ‘Growing up, I didn’t have traditional beauty, so I found strength in my personality and character instead.’

I learned to rely less on shallow aspects, as I never had such things to lean on.

In another interview, the actress shared an amusing story about how Meryl Streep responded when she discovered that some well-known Hollywood figures are in fact cousins.

Eva found out through a TV show hosted by Dr. Henry Louis Gates called Faces of America that she shares ancestry with a renowned actress.

During her recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress shared that he checks everyone’s DNA to find potential relatives from the past 100 years by making comparisons.

He said, “Would you like to learn about your family history? It turns out Meryl Streep is a relative of yours.” I exclaimed, “Wow!

Initially hesitant to disclose the good news, the actress from Sylvie’s Love expressed her excitement about it only when she met Meryl at a later awards ceremony.

However, once she gathered the courage to discuss the matter with her kin, Meryl’s response turned out to be quite amusing.

Eva went on saying, ‘I was either at the Golden Globes or it was somewhere behind the scenes in a green room. My friend suggested, “Look, there’s Meryl Streep. Go tell her you’re her relative.”‘

I wouldn’t dream of approaching Meryl Streep and claiming we’re cousins, it just doesn’t add up. I’m unsure if she caught that segment of the performance.

Fortunately, Eva didn’t need to talk to the Oscar-winning star since Meryl was already aware of their connection.

Eva continued: ‘Then I hear, “Cousin! Cousin!” That’s how cool Meryl Streep is.

I said, “It’s obvious that your family has a knack for it,” to which she replied, “And it’s evident that yours is grace.

‘How sweet is she?’ the star gushed before she then joked: ‘So… Meryl’s Latina.’
