As a die-hard MMA fan with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel like a kid on Christmas morning as UFC APEX prepares for a stacked card on August 10! The main event between Marcin Tybura and Serghei Spivac is a rematch that promises to be even more exciting than their first encounter. I remember watching their initial fight back in 2020, and the improvement both fighters have shown since then is astounding!

On August 10th, I’m thrilled to witness the UFC APEX playing host once again, as Marcin Tybura (Rank #8) and Serghei Spivac (Rank #9) lead the card in a highly-anticipated rematch. We go back to UFC Norfolk in February 2020 for their first encounter, where Tybura emerged victorious via unanimous decision during the prelims. Since then, both contenders have significantly upped their game in terms of technique and visibility, earning them a main event spot. This rematch promises to be engaging, as we watch these two powerhouses test each other’s growth and determine who gets a shot at one of the elite top-five fighters!

In this upcoming co-main event, Damon Jackson will face Chepe Mariscal in a match that’s become a catchweight bout due to Mariscal missing weight during weigh-ins. Jackson is an experienced fighter who has battled it out across various MMA leagues like PFL, LFA, and Bellator. He boasts an impressive skill set that allows him to either knock out or submit his opponents. Mariscal, on the other hand, is a rising star with a six-fight win streak under his belt, four of those being knockouts. Besides the UFC, he’s also made a name for himself in other organizations, sharing the ring with prominent names such as Bryce Mitchell, Pat Sabatini, and Youssef Zalal. Much like Jackson, Mariscal is versatile, which makes their bout a strong candidate for Fight of the Night.

In this upcoming bout, we’ll witness two promising fighters, Danny Barlow and Nikolay Veretennikov, squaring off in a catchweight match. It’s important to note that Barlow has missed weight for this fight. He boasts an undefeated record of 8-0, with five knockouts and one submission contributing to six of his wins. His preferred style is stand-up fighting, making him a must-watch as he possesses the power to finish any opponent. Veretennikov, on the other hand, is one of the few UFC fighters from Kazakhstan. Known for his versatile skill set, he’s made quite an impression in the UFC. Primarily a knockout artist, this will be his UFC debut against Barlow, promising an exciting contest as long as it lasts.

Bantamweights will collide as Chris Gutiérrez takes on Quang Le, who is making his UFC debut as he steps in on a week’s notice. The original opponent for Gutiérrez was Javid Basharat, who withdrew due to an unknown injury. Gutiérrev is a skilled striker, known for his hard calf kicks, which can cripple his opponents. Le is 8-0, with five wins consisting of two knockouts and three submissions. Wrestling is a weak, skill point of Gutiérrez, meaning if Le can mix up his striking and wrestling well, he could win. Le can end the fight by pulling an upset or at least losing a competitive decision, as both scenarios can kick his UFC career off to a successful start.

12th-ranked MMA fighter Yana Santos will face off against No. 14 ranked Chelsea Chandler in an exciting catchweight bout. Chandler has missed her target weight for the fourth time in her professional career, which may give Santos an advantage. Known as the wife of UFC star Thiago Santos, Yana is eager to recover after a three-fight losing streak against top competitors like Irene Aldana and Holly Holm. Chandler’s lack of experience and potential weight cut issues could work in Santos’ favor. The preliminary matches are also promising, featuring several well-known fighters. It’s encouraging that the fights will proceed despite recent weight misses by some competitors.
