UFC fighters react to Dricus du Plessis submitting Israel Adesanya in UFC 305 main event

As a seasoned MMA fan with over two decades of watching fights under my belt, I must say that UFC 305 was nothing short of spectacular. The main event between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya was a back-and-forth battle that had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

The main event of UFC 305 was as exciting as anticipated. In a closely contested match, Dricus du Plessis came out on top by submitting Israel Adesanya in the fourth round following a series of tense exchanges.

“Du Plessis acknowledged that facing one of the best strikers in his division was a tough challenge. He knew he had to bring the fight to the ground… Simply surviving was an added benefit. Going into the match, he was prepared to give it all and potentially lose… Sharing the Octagon with a legend was an honor for him. This man has significantly contributed to this sport…”

During his turn at the microphone, Adesanya admitted, “I knew he was tough. I held my own quite well. Unfortunately, I made a foolish error on the ground and he capitalized on it… I’m upset with myself, but I’m still proud. He outperformed me tonight… I’m not walking away from this.”

Tension between du Plessis and Adesanya has been growing for quite some time now, stemming from a disagreement over who truly represents the African world champion. Du Plessis, a South African native, resides and trains in his homeland, while Adesanya was born in Nigeria but calls Auckland, New Zealand home where he trains.

As a fervent supporter, I can’t help but express my excitement as Du Plessis, the current UFC middleweight champion, steps into the Octagon for UFC 305. His victory over Sean Strickland at UFC 297 earned him this title, and since joining the UFC, he’s been an unstoppable force, with eight consecutive wins under his belt.

At UFC 243, Israel Adesanya claimed the championship title and went on to defend it five consecutive times. However, he eventually relinquished the title to Alex Pereira during their encounter at UFC 281. Interestingly, in a rematch at UFC 287, Adesanya managed to reclaim his title once again. After an eleven-month break, Adesanya made his return to the Octagon at UFC 305. In his most recent bout, he faced off against Sean Strickland and unfortunately came out on the losing end at UFC 293.

12 consecutive fights of Adesanya’s career were championship bouts, with the one at the weekend being no exception. His upcoming fight, however, marks the first time since UFC 234 that he won’t be vying for a title. Adesanya has suffered two straight losses and three out of his last four matches. To secure another opportunity to challenge du Plessis for the title, Adesanya must register a victory against another top-five ranked contender first.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) might arrange a highly anticipated non-title main event for PPV featuring champion Israel Adesanya. A potential matchup between Adesanya and unbeaten contender Khamzat Chimaev could be monumental. Notably, Chimaev is currently the 11th ranked middleweight, but he hasn’t fought since UFC 294. If this fight materializes, the victor would secure an immediate title shot.
