UFC Denver live results & highlights
As a dedicated gamer and MMA fan, I’m thrilled to see the UFC return to Denver for an action-packed event. The main card is stacked with intriguing matchups, starting with my fellow Denver native and two-time strawweight champion Rose Namajunas against Tracy Cortez. It’s impressive to see Namajunas making her third appearance at flyweight, coming off a win against Amanda Ribas. I’ll be rooting for her to secure another victory and make a statement in her hometown.
The UFC returns from its hiatus and heads to Denver, Colorado for the first time since the thrilling finish between Yair Rodriguez and Korean Zombie in 2018. Hailing from Denver and a former TUF 20 champion, as well as two-time strawweight titleholder and current No. 6 contender, Rose Namajunas will square off against Tracy Cortez. Cortez boasts an impressive eleven-fight win streak but is stepping into the octagon on short notice. Due to weight cutting pressures, she was forced to cut her hair.
At UFC Vegas 89, Namajunas faced off in her third flyweight contest, having previously defeated Amanda Ribas. Cortez, ranked 11th, has a perfect record of 5 wins since joining the UFC in 2019 but hasn’t stepped into the octagon for around ten months. Originally, Namajunas was set to battle Maycee Barber, the fourth-ranked contender, but health issues forced Barber to withdraw from the bout.
In the supporting bout, experienced welterweights Santiago Ponzinibbio and Muslim Salikhov will square off. Ponzinibbio, who has seen six bouts in the past year with a win-loss record of two wins and four losses, has been away from competition since then. Salikhov, on the other hand, comes into this fight having lost his last two matches, with his most recent defeat occurring against Randy Brown at UFC Vegas 85.
At UFC’s upcoming event, the highly anticipated match-up between lightweights Drew Dober and Jean Silva is expected to be the standout fight of the night. Dober has recently suffered a defeat against Renato Moicano at UFC Vegas 85. In contrast, Silva boasts an impressive record with ten consecutive victories and is making a swift return to the octagon after her previous bout just two weeks prior.
In this contest, Julian Erosa and Christian Rodriguez complete the lineup. Erosa has emerged victorious in his previous bout against Ricardo Ramos during UFC Vegas 89. Rodriguez, on the other hand, boasts a four-game winning streak, with his most recent triumph being over Isaac Dulgarian at UFC Vegas 88.
The upcoming featured fight pits Abdul Razak Alhassan, known for his powerful strikes, against grappling specialist Cody Brundage. Most recently, Alhassan suffered a defeat against Joe Pyfer at UFC Vegas 80. In contrast, Brundage lost to Bo Nickal in their last outing at UFC 300.
In the opening bouts, flyweight fighters Joshua Van and Charles Johnson take center stage. Van boasts a victorious eight-fight streak, with his latest triumph coming against Felipe Bunes at UFC Vegas 84. Meanwhile, Johnson aims for his third consecutive victory following his triumph over Jake Hadley at UFC St. Louis.
Fatima Kline, who holds the undefeated women’s double championship in CFFC, will make her debut on the prelims against Jasmine Jasudavicius. After claiming the strawweight title with CFFC, Kline will return to the flyweight division for this bout. Jasudavicius, ranked 15th, is coming off a victory over Priscila Cachoeira at UFC 297.
In the final preparations for the event, bantamweight Montel Jackson and women’s flyweight Luana Santos are set to make their appearances. Both athletes boast impressive four-fight winning streaks. Jackson emerged victorious against Rani Yahya in his last bout at UFC Vegas 71 and will face Da’Mon Blackshear. Blackshear, who suffered a defeat against Mario Bautista during UFC 292, is Jackson’s upcoming opponent. In the women’s flyweight division, Santos secured a win over Stephanie Egger at UFC Vegas 83 and will encounter Mariya Agapova. Agapova has experienced back-to-back defeats, with her most recent loss being to Gillian Robertson during UFC Vegas 60.
The opening act of this event features a welterweight match-up between Evan Elder and Darrius Flowers, which was recently added to the card. Most recently, Elder emerged victorious against Genaro Valdez at UFC Vegas 77. Conversely, Flowers has yet to secure a win since joining the UFC ranks.
