UFC Abu Dhabi live results & highlights

As a lifelong MMA enthusiast who’s seen more fights than I can count, I am absolutely thrilled about the UFC’s return to Abu Dhabi! The Etihad Arena has become a second home for me during the pandemic, and it feels like coming back to an old friend. This event on August 3rd promises to be nothing short of spectacular, with a stacked card featuring some of the most exciting fighters in the game today.

As a diehard gamer and UFC enthusiast, I’m pumped! On August 3rd, I’ll be glued to my screen as the UFC makes its thrilling comeback in Abu Dhabi. The action will unfold live from the Etihad Arena on Yas Island – a place that held the UFC down during those challenging pandemic times.

In this upcoming fight, Cory Sandhagen will face off against Umar Nurmagomedov in a bantamweight matchup. With a winning streak of three consecutive victories, Sandhagen has been invincible since the year 2022 and holds the number 2 spot in the division. On the other hand, Nurmagomedov boasts an undefeated record of 17 fights throughout his professional career, having joined the UFC in 2021. He is currently ranked at number 10 within the division. This bout could potentially determine the next contender for the bantamweight title held by Sean O’Malley at 135 pounds.

In the second-to-last bout of the night, an intriguing middleweight encounter will unfold between two unranked competitors: Sharabutdin Magomedov and Michał Oleksiejczuk. Magomedov, who boasts an undefeated record in his 13 professional fights, is making only his third appearance in the Octagon at UFC Abu Dhabi. His opponent, Oleksiejczuk, is eager to secure a win and recover from his recent back-to-back losses. Given the current turmoil within the middleweight division, with champion Dricus du Plessis, Israel Adesanya in second place, and others, this fight could serve as an opportunity to reshuffle the deck and demonstrate that there is no dearth of talent at 185 pounds.

In the upcoming card, the fourth-ranked Marlon Vera is set to square off against the sixth-ranked Deiveson Figueiredo in a bantamweight matchup. This will mark Figueiredo’s third bout at bantamweight, and he has been victorious in his initial two fights at 135 pounds. Vera has long been established in the bantamweight division, with his latest fight taking place at UFC 299 where he fell short against O’Malley in a title challenge. Both fighters are currently ranked within the division, and this encounter could potentially propel them closer to title contention.

In addition to the UFC Abu Dhabi lineup, there’s a welterweight duel scheduled between Tony Ferguson and Michael Chiesa. Ferguson, who has been with the UFC since 2011, is one of its longest-serving fighters. He even held the interim lightweight title at one point. Similarly, Chiesa has been part of the UFC family since 2012. This upcoming fight in 2024 marks their first bouts for both combatants.

On the UFC Abu Dhabi lineup, there are two women’s fights scheduled, with one of these bouts appearing on the main card. The seventh-ranked Mackenzie Dern and tenth-ranked Loopy Godinez will face off in a strawweight matchup. Both Dern and Godinez have suffered recent setbacks, but this fight could serve as their path back to victory.

The opening fight for the primary event will feature Joel Álvarez and Elves Brener in a lightweight contest. Álvarez aims to reestablish his winning sequence, while Brener seeks redemption following his defeat at UFC 301. Two lightweight fights are scheduled on this card.

The preliminary bout lineup consists of seven additional matches for fight enthusiasts to watch. Since it’s happening in Abu Dhabi, viewers in the United States can expect an earlier fight night. With all fighters having made weight, we are set for a 13-fight event. All that’s left is for the action to unfold at the Etihad Arena on August 3rd.

This page will be updated live throughout the night as the action unfolds.
