Ubisoft is “actively working on” Driver Franchise
As a long-time fan of the Driver series, I was both surprised and disappointed to hear that Ubisoft had scrapped their plans for a live-action adaptation. The news came as a bit of a shock, as I had fond memories of playing the earlier games in the franchise and had been excitedly anticipating this new venture.
Ubisoft had been developing a live-action show inspired by the Driver video game franchise, but unfortunately, this project has been cancelled.
According to a representative of Ubisoft in an interview with Game File, reported by VGC, the collaboration between Ubisoft and Binge on a new Driver game is no longer progressing.
As a gamer, I might respond to this news with a casual shrug, whether it’s from disappointment that another racing game is on the way or confusion if I wasn’t aware of the existence of a Driver series. But there was something else Ubisoft shared that piqued my interest.
I’m thrilled to be part of this franchise community and can’t wait to share with you the progress we’re making on some new and exhilarating projects. Stay tuned for updates!
As a gamer, I can assume we’re talking about video games here, correct? With the cancellation of the live-action Driver series and limited media coverage, it’s safe to guess that a newDriver game is in development.
More recently, the Driver series released its final installments in 2011 with Driver: San Francisco and Driver: Renegade 3D for the 3DS. After that, the franchise took a break and was largely replaced by the Watchdogs series.
In the past, Driver held significant influence, comparable to Grand Theft Auto in terms of cultural impact. Let’s cross our fingers for an exciting new project.
