U2 frontman Bono is awarded US Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden

As a long-time admirer and follower of these extraordinary individuals, I am absolutely thrilled to see Bono, U2 frontman and humanitarian extraordinaire, receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. His tireless efforts in fighting poverty and supporting those affected by HIV/AIDS have not only made a significant impact on the world stage but also inspired countless others to make a difference in their own communities.

It’s truly heartening to witness such a diverse group of individuals, spanning various fields, being honored for their extraordinary contributions. From fashion designers like Ralph Lauren to actors like Denzel Washington and Bill Nye the Science Guy, each recipient has left an indelible mark on our society. It’s particularly touching to see Biden posthumously honor Robert F Kennedy, whose legacy continues to inspire us all.

In a world that often feels chaotic and divisive, it is moments like these that remind us of the power of decency, empathy, and unity. As Bono once sang, “We were born to sing for you, clap along all night.” In this case, we can also cheer for them as they continue to make a difference in our world.

Lastly, I’d like to end on a lighter note: I wonder if Bono will be singing “Beautiful Day” when he receives his medal? Or perhaps “One Love” as a nod to unity and peace. Either way, I can’t help but imagine the scene – it’s bound to be a beautiful day indeed!

U2 frontman Bono has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by US president Joe Biden.

19 individuals have received the Presidential Medal of Freedom this year, ranging from cultural legends, political figures, and advocates.

The White House stated that they were selected due to being exceptional individuals who have significantly benefited their nation and humanity as a whole through their remarkable accomplishments.

Paul David Hewson, better known as Bono, has previously been bestowed the most prestigious cultural award in France and been granted an honorary knighthood.

U2 formed in Dublin in 1976 consists of Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. 

Beyond his musical career, this Irish artist is also renowned for his activism, particularly for fighting poverty and providing aid to individuals living with HIV/AIDS.

This year’s awards were presented at the White House on Saturday, January 4.

Biden intends to pay tribute to Robert F Kennedy, a past U.S. Attorney General and Senator, who tragically passed away due to an assassination in 1968, posthumously.

According to the White House, President Biden thinks that outstanding leaders uphold their principles, offer equal opportunities to everyone, and prioritize kindness over everything else.

I have had the privilege of meeting some truly exceptional individuals throughout my life, and these nineteen Americans are among them. Their remarkable leadership skills have not only improved America but also left an indelible impact on the world. What sets them apart is their inherent goodness and unwavering commitment to making a difference. They have selflessly dedicated their lives to serving others, and their extraordinary contributions to their country will be remembered for generations to come. I am proud to call them great leaders.

Biden will also present awards to benefactors who’ve been good to him.

David Rubenstein, a renowned billionaire philanthropist, is set to be honored – for generously permitting the Bidens to stay at his waterfront home on Nantucket during every Thanksgiving when they were in office as Democrats.

Besides investing his fortune, Rubenstein has supported American cultural establishments as well. He’s contributed to preserving the Washington Monument, sponsored the panda program at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, and even bought a replica of the Magna Carta during an auction.

Fashion designer Ralph Lauren will be presented with the award.

He designed granddaughter Naomi’s wedding dress for her November 2022 White House wedding.

According to the White House, it’s been announced that Lauren will be honored with an award. He has made significant impacts across various fields including culture, business, and philanthropy, particularly in the areas of combating cancer and preserving the Star-Spangled Banner.

Anna Wintour, who was involved in a lavish Vogue feature about that White House wedding, is included as well.

For a number of years, she has been connected with Democratic initiatives and organized events to raise funds for Biden during his presidential bid in 2024.

As an advocate for charitable endeavors, she plays a pivotal role in organizing the yearly Met Gala charity event and serves as the top content strategist at Condé Nast, according to the White House’s statement.

A number of Hollywood types are also included on the list.

Actor Denzel Washington and U2’s lead singer, Bono, who has been active in fighting HIV/AIDS, are both set to receive awards.

Michael J. Fox, the actor famous for “Back to the Future”, endorsed Pete Buttigieg during his 2020 presidential campaign. Now, he is set to receive an honor as well.

The White House stated that he is globally recognized as an ardent supporter, pushing forward research and advancement related to Parkinson’s disease.

Bill Nye the Science Guy will also receive the award, along with conservationist Dr. James Goodall.

From the athletic world, soccer star Lionel Messi and Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson will be honored.

Tim Gill will receive it for advancing LBGTQ rights.

Fannie Lou Hamer will be honored posthumously for her civil rights work in the segregated south.

George Stevens, Jr., who shares credit for creating the Kennedy Center Honors, will also be presented with the honor by the President.

Additionally the late Secretary of Defense Ash Carter will be honored posthumously.

During the 2015 inauguration ceremony for Ash Carter, appointed as Barack Obama’s Secretary of Defense, Biden gained attention by gently massaging Stephanie Carter’s shoulders and whispering in her ear – a memorable moment that circulated online.

Later on, I found myself expressing my backing for Vice President Biden. To clarify, my actions were not intended to cause offense; instead, the massage was a way for me to show my support for him in a unique manner.
