Tyra Banks reveals dirty habit live on Today show leaving viewers feeling ‘sick’

Tyra Banks left Jenna Bush Hager and the studio audience in shock when she admitted on air that she eats food crumbs left on her bed at her Sydney home as a cleaning method, on Monday.

The 51-year-old ex-supermodel-turned-presenter doesn’t live in isolation; her mother Carolyn London and nine-year-old son York Banks Asla also indulge in some of her quirky habits like eating ice cream and popcorn in bed, with leftovers sometimes remaining for a couple of days.

Tyra mentioned during her appearance as a guest host on TODAY with Jenna & Friends, on Monday, that some items might last for several days, provided they aren’t highly perishable.

Are you fond of popcorn? Frankly speaking, it’s almost comparable to space food – it seems to last an eternity! You can simply pick it up whenever you want. I’m not kidding here.

Gagging, Jenna asked: ‘A week later you would go and eat that?’

‘Yeah, if I knew it was mine in my bed, yeah,’ Banks replied.

The Emmy Award-winning individual, who’s claimed

‘I have a no shoe rule in my home so I can eat off my floor,’ Tyra stressed.

‘I don’t do that, but honestly, I actually do. Whenever I see my son imitating me, I say, “Don’t copy that!” And he responds with, “But you do it, Mama!”‘

On the Jenna & Friends Instagram page, users expressed shock, much like @randirobson who reacted with a vomit emoji: “This is appalling! I could never imagine eating in bed and then consuming the leftover crumbs afterwards.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I often find myself indulging in meals while lounging in my cozy bed – a practice that many might find unusual. However, I make sure to avoid leaving snacks like popcorn behind for extended periods, as I understand the importance of keeping my sanctuary clean and tidy.

Instagram user @desalvoshirley commented: ‘No way do I want food in my bed! Yikes!’

Over on X, user @mozingo_84 posted a cringing meme.

Look at Tyra eating floor crumbs! That’s quite surprising,” user @Bintmetax remarked with a hint of disapproval. “Not something I’d recommend as a pest control method!

X user @blackgypsy71 posted a vomit emoji and simply wrote: ‘Nasty.’

For the next four days, the founder of SMiZE & DREAM will continue to surprise and perhaps unsettle Jenna, given her role as the temporary host for the entire week.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be making an appearance on the upcoming episode of HGTV’s makeover show, Celebrity IOU, airing on August 13th. The dynamic duo, Drew and Jonathan Scott from Property Brothers, are hosting this exciting series, and I can hardly wait!

Back in May, I was thrilled to learn from Entertainment Weekly that my beloved Tyra Banks had agreed to an interview for a forthcoming Netflix documentary series detailing the behind-the-scenes creation of America’s Next Top Model, which wrapped up its remarkable run in 2018 after 18 seasons. I can hardly wait!

In truth, I owe a debt of gratitude to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show models for providing the foundation that eventually shaped my own successful and Emmy-winning reality TV show, RuPaul’s Drag Race.

In 1996, Tyra Banks made history as the first black model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue. She repeated this achievement on the covers in 1997, 2019, and most recently, in 2024.
