Two years on, LeVar Burton is still behind Star Trek: Legacy

As a long-time Star Trek enthusiast who’s been following this franchise since the days of Next Generation, I can wholeheartedly say that the prospect of more adventures with characters like Geordi LaForge, Seven of Nine, Raffi Musiker, and Jean-Luc Picard’s son, Jack Crusher, is nothing short of exhilarating. LeVar Burton’s enthusiasm for a potential Legacy series mirrors my own.

5 years since the finale of Star Trek: Picard’s third season, titled “The Last Generation,” several actors like Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, Todd Stashwick, and many fans are still hopeful about more stories involving the original characters and the new ones introduced in Picard. LeVar Burton is among those actors who share this enthusiasm.

According to an interview on TVLine (as reported by Whatculture), the actor who played Commodore Geordi LaForge is still involved with a potential series that would feature Captain Seven of Nine (portrayed by Jeri Ryan), her first officer Raffi Musiker (played by Michelle Hurd), and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard’s son, Jack Crusher (acted by Ed Speleers).

The sentiment, then and now, at least for us, the cast, and the audience, two years on, seem to be just as interested in the idea of Legacy as when Picard was just airing.

At this point, it’s widely understood that Legacy won’t be moving forward, given that the spotlight is on Starfleet Academy and the upcoming comedic Trek series from Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien. Some people are still questioning why Legacy was passed over, but the reasons might remain unclear. However, Burton believes a Legacy show would be logical, as he expressed to TVLine.

I would think that given the opportunity and the resources that they would want to do [Legacy]. It makes so much sense. It makes so much sense.

Reviving any Legacy characters for screen appearances is likely to come at a higher price tag compared to employing fresh talent for new shows, which might explain the reluctance to produce Legacy series on Paramount+. However, they’re also gambling that these upcoming series won’t resonate with viewers. Personally, I’d watch any Star Trek production, but not all fans share my enthusiasm. Nevertheless, more Star Trek is preferable to no Star Trek at all.
