Two years after crippling strikes, Hollywood studios pick a new leader in labor dealings
On Tuesday, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which acts as a negotiator between Hollywood studios and unions, appointed attorney Greg Hessinger as their new president. Hessinger, with experience in representing both employers and unions, is set to begin his role as AMPTP’s lead negotiator on April 14th.
After Carol Lombardardi announced her retirement last year, it’s now Hessinger who is stepping into the role she held for 15 years as AMPTP’s primary negotiator. Lombardardi will now take on a more advisory position within the organization.
In a statement, Hessinger expressed that throughout his professional journey, he’s been dedicated to generating and maintaining opportunities within entertainment and media. He is eager to collaborate with our company members and union heads to safeguard the talented individuals who fuel our industry, enabling them to keep producing captivating content for global audiences.
He will be based in Los Angeles.

Carol Lombardini, who served as a representative for the main film studios during last year’s Hollywood strikes, has decided to step down from her positions as both president and lead negotiator at the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
The Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) represents some of the biggest movie and streaming companies such as The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Netflix.
The transition comes during a tumultuous time for the studios.
In 2023, a significant portion of the United States entertainment industry experienced a prolonged halt due to a strike initiated by the Writers Guild of America and the performers’ union, SAG-AFTRA. The purpose of this work stoppage was to negotiate for improved compensation, working environment, and safeguards against artificial intelligence.
During the strikes, Lombardi served as the primary mediator, but from the perspective of the writers and actors, he essentially played the role of an unsung antagonist.
The sector remains beset by difficulties, as Hollywood navigates a slump in filming and tries to adapt to the influence of artificial intelligence.
