Two teams head directly into the Dota 2 playoffs at the Esports World Cup
Following a thrilling three-day stretch of Dota 2 matches at the Esports World Cup, we’re nearing the end of the group stage, as the rankings for groups A and B have been determined.
Over these past few days at the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2025, Dota 2 has provided an intriguing and fun-filled experience. So far, we haven’t witnessed many significant upsets, but there have been a handful of thrilling hero selections and team performances. Although the Group Stage doesn’t lead to any immediate eliminations, July 10 is when the first two groups will be advanced into the next round.
Let’s examine how teams in Dota 2 Groups A and B at EWC 2025 are performing, specifically focusing on those that have shown exceptional skill, as well as those that might be eliminated prior to the playoffs.
Team Spirit dominates Dota 2 at the Esports World Cup
In the EWC’s Group A, Team Spirit was predicted to rule supreme. However, an unexpected loss against Xtreme Gaming on day one caused some doubt. Yet, Team Spirit showed their true strength in subsequent matches. Despite Natus Vincere displaying some clever strategies, they couldn’t compete with Team Spirit. This left Team Spirit as the undisputed champions of their group, advancing straight to Phase 3 without having to face elimination.
On the other hand, XG hasn’t lived up to expectations as much as fans have grown accustomed. They seem to struggle with understanding their opponents and drafting strategies, causing them to falter after an excellent game against Spirit. Despite a stellar opening match against Talon Esports, they could only muster a drawn series. Consequently, these teams find themselves at the bottom of Group A.

BetBoom Hoodwink Group B
Group B presented a challenging scenario for all participating teams, given the formidable opponents like BetBoom Team and Gaimin Gladiators. The upcoming battles were expected to be tough. On the first day, these favorites faced off against each other, ending in a 1-1 score. Following this, both teams effortlessly won their subsequent series. BetBoom Team secured their top position by finishing with another 2-0 victory. Unfortunately, Gaimin Gladiators could not maintain the same level of performance, settling for a draw against Team Falcons instead.
For team GG, finishing second positioned them for the elimination round. Teams Execraction (from Group B) and Falcons, who have shown some instability, will also be joining them. Both teams delivered noteworthy performances, with Execraction particularly shining.

On July 11th, both Group C and D will discover their standings. Afterward, the initial eliminations of the Dota 2 Esports World Cup 2025 tournament will commence. In the coming days, two additional teams will advance alongside BetBoom and Spirit to the playoff round. As the competition intensifies, we’re eagerly anticipating more exciting matches and strategic plays.
