Two Stranger Things Stars Reunite In Netflix Adaptation Of Bestselling Crime Novel

I’m so excited to hear that two of my favorite actors from Stranger Things are going to be working together again! They’re teaming up for Netflix’s new show, which is based on a really popular and highly-rated crime novel. I can’t wait to see what they do with it!

For the past ten years, Stranger Things has been Netflix’s most popular original series, launching the careers of many young actors and making its cast beloved by fans. With the show now finished after five seasons, the stars are moving on to new roles. Now, two actors who appeared in Stranger Things are joining forces again for a new project with Netflix.

Netflix revealed the actors who will star in its upcoming limited series, The God of the Woods, based on Liz Moore’s popular 2024 mystery novel. The cast includes Maya Hawke and Nell Fisher, both known for their roles in Stranger Things. Hawke gained popularity as Robin Buckley starting in season 3, and Fisher appeared as Holly Wheeler in the show’s latest season.

Okay, so alongside Ethan Hawke and Madison Fisher in The God of the Woods, you’ve also got a really strong supporting cast – Kerry Condon is in it, which is awesome, plus Damon Gupton, Ella Rubin, Susannah Perkins, Benjamin Walker, and Autumn Molina. It’s shaping up to be a great ensemble!

Based on the 2024 novel by the same name, The God of the Woods is a compelling crime drama that spans several generations. It revolves around the disappearance of a young girl at a summer camp in the Adirondack Mountains. The story quickly became a highly praised mystery, remaining on bestseller lists for months and earning recognition for its mix of suspense, family relationships, and insightful social themes.

Moore will be a co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the series, working alongside Liz Hannah, known for her work on Netflix’s Mindhunter and The Girl from Plainville. Sony Pictures Television is producing the show, with Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty also serving as executive producers through Original Film.

Lena Hawke stars as Judy Luptack, a groundbreaking female investigator in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. She’s tasked with finding Barbara Van Laar, a 13-year-old girl who went missing from her family’s summer camp. The case is particularly complex because Barbara’s disappearance is similar to a past tragedy involving the influential Van Laar family, who have long held power in the area.

Lilly Fisher will star as Barbara Van Laar, a key figure in the unfolding mystery. Barbara is a creative, free-spirited, and somewhat rebellious teen, a role quite different from Fisher’s recent work on Stranger Things. Meanwhile, Barbara’s mother, Alice Van Laar, will be played by Condon.

Maya Hawke is taking on a leading role after becoming well-known for playing Robin in Stranger Things. She’s also voiced the character Anxiety in the popular animated film Inside Out 2 and appeared in movies like Do Revenge, Asteroid City, and Wildcat. Hawke will soon be seen in the new Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping. For Isis Fisher, this series is another significant project with Netflix early in her acting career.
