Two shows to look forward to at Hollywood Studios in 2025

As a seasoned Disney World veteran with countless memories etched into the cobblestones of its parks, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming additions to Hollywood Studios in 2025! The announcement of “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” and the long-awaited return of “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” has sent a thrill through me, reminiscent of the days when I first heard the roar of Space Mountain.

As we approach the final weeks of 2024, Disney is eagerly planning for the upcoming year. Over the last couple of months, there have been numerous significant announcements, and each of Disney World’s four theme parks is set to introduce something new in the coming year.

At Hollywood Studios, two eagerly anticipated shows are set to debut: First, there’s the previously hinted villain stage production, now officially titled “Disney Villains: An Unfair Tale Retold”. Second, fans can rejoice as The Little Mermaid musical stage show makes its long-awaited comeback, rebranded as “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Voyage.

Here’s the latest update on both of these projects as we close in on 2025.

Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After

Announced in September, the newly christened “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After Details” has been revealed as a live show featuring your beloved Disney villains. The upcoming production will metamorphose Sunset Showcase on Sunset Boulevard, which was previously home to Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, into an enigmatic, mirror-like domain known as “the realm of the Magic Mirror.

Disney has shared an all new teaser description for the highly anticipated show:

Experience an exhilarating live spectacle where the notoriously villainous characters, Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent, burst forth from their confines, ready to steal the spotlight. With a blend of clever humor and mischievous allure, they’ll captivate you, making it difficult to look away. You might even catch a sneak peek of some additional rogues as numerous famous baddies attempt to join the devilishly entertaining festivities through enchanted mirrors.

The revelation of “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” was quite unexpected, given that Disney has also proposed a future villain-themed area at Magic Kingdom. It remains uncertain whether this production will be linked to the upcoming land or if it’s simply due to its decision to place it at Hollywood Studios. Nevertheless, it’s one of the most eagerly awaited projects slated for 2025.

The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure

Do you recall the live musical stage production titled “Voyage of the Little Mermaid“? This captivating show presented a condensed adaptation of the 1989 animated film “The Little Mermaid”. It combined live performers, puppets, laser effects, and lighting to create an unforgettable experience.

The original show ceased operation in March 2020 because of COVID-19 and did not reopen afterwards. A new production titled “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” was unveiled in December 2023, initially scheduled to premiere in Fall 2024. However, the launch has been postponed and now it is set to make its debut during Summer 2025.

Disney’s statement indicates that a fresh production is on its way, combining captivating backdrops, a lively troupe of puppets, live actors, and breathtaking visuals to immerse us in an underwater world. Essentially, it seems they will be retelling the popular tale The Little Mermaid, with fan favorites like “Under the Sea” and “Part of Your World,” along with two brand-new songs for this theater debut: “Daughters of Triton” and “Kiss the Girl.

What it means for Hollywood Studios in 2025?

Significant transformations are underway at Hollywood Studios. It’s been announced that the Muppets Courtyard, which houses the popular attraction, MuppetVision 3D, is set to close in order to accommodate the upcoming Monsters, Inc. Land.

The Muppets are set to take charge of a fresh attraction, as they assume control over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster previously operated by Aerosmith.

Insights into Disney Villains: Twisted Tales – A Glimpse into the New Expansion of Disney Villains Realm at Magic Kingdom

Regarding “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure”, it certainly adds an enjoyable element to the park, particularly in Animation Courtyard. However, since it’s a stage show, it likely won’t extend into the late hours, which can leave that part of the park rather quiet at night – something I believe is a missed chance.
