Twitch CEO Dan Clancy‘s statement about the Emiru incident at TwitchCon was widely seen as insufficient and disappointing.
Following an incident where streamer Emiru was harassed at TwitchCon 2025, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy issued a statement. However, many in the Twitch community and online weren’t happy with it, calling it insufficient and noting a lack of immediate plans to address the problem. Some people even believe the statement was largely written by artificial intelligence, which has further angered viewers.
Twitch CEO responds to Emiru’s TwitchCon assault
Clancy issued a long statement, beginning with an apology for his comments and reaction following the assault on Emiru at TwitchCon. The statement, posted on X (formerly Twitter), quickly reached over 2 million views in less than 12 hours.
I want to sincerely apologize for the security issue that happened at Emiru’s Meet and Greet. We completely failed to prevent it, and our reaction afterward wasn’t good enough. We also didn’t handle communication about the incident well, including my own statements, and I deeply apologize to Emiru for everything that occurred.
Okay, so I’m talking about what I said in that interview – I definitely made it sound like things weren’t a big deal and, honestly, kinda blamed Emiru for not keeping her community in check. Plus, Twitch’s official account was spreading some seriously wrong info about everything that was going on, and I need to address that too.

The announcement that followed was largely seen as disappointing. Clancy said he would look into security, production, and staff at the venue, but didn’t mention any immediate steps to address concerns.
Everyone disliked that.
The announcement wasn’t popular with streamers or the Twitch community, mainly because Clancy and the Twitch team haven’t committed to any specific steps to address the issue.

Many people are now asking him to resign as CEO. Content creator CinnamonToastKen satirized the company’s response, summarizing it as an admission that they knew their event was poor for a long time, but are only now considering making changes.

Andrew “Legal Mindset” Esquire, a legal content creator, described the statement as meaningless corporate jargon, suggesting Twitch is bracing for a likely and reasonable lawsuit from Emiru.
The VTuber incident
After the incident with Emiru at TwitchCon, many viewers and fans are upset with Twitch. This wasn’t an isolated issue, and highlighted broader concerns about how Twitch handled the situation and other issues.
It’s been reported that gifts sent to VTubers were discarded by staff and never delivered to the creators. Several popular VTubers, including Ironmouse, Henya the Genius, KuroK9, and Phoebe Chan, have publicly shared that they didn’t receive gifts sent by their fans.

This situation remains unaddressed by Twitch staff in an official capacity.
