Twin Peaks creator David Lynch dies aged 78

Legendary television show creator and movie director David Lynch, famously recognized for his works including ‘Twin Peaks’ and ‘Blue Velvet’, passed away at the age of 78.

Today, it was confirmed through a family statement posted on his official Facebook account that he had passed away (on January 16).

With a heavy heart, we, his family, share the sad news of the death of both the man and the creative genius, David Lynch. At present, we kindly request some space for ourselves to grieve.

A significant void has emerged since his departure, yet just as he often reminded us, let’s focus on appreciating the sweetness of life, rather than dwelling on its emptiness. Today is graced with radiant sunlight and azure skies stretching endlessly.

Last summer in an online post, I, as a filmmaker known for directing Mulholland Drive and The Elephant Man, shared that I’d been diagnosed with emphysema after decades of smoking.

Apart from this, Lynch also mentioned that he had stopped smoking more than two years ago, and he made it clear that even with his diagnosis, he has no plans to retire.

During a chat in November, the director subsequently revealed that he received his initial diagnosis for this health issue back in 2020.

In the 1960s, Lynch kicked off his journey as a filmmaker, but it was after the 1977 release of the chilling horror movie “Eraserhead,” that he gained significant recognition, as he had penned its script too.

1980’s movie “The Elephant Man,” featuring John Hurt and Anthony Hopkins, marked David Lynch’s first Academy Award nomination for Best Director. Later, he received two more Oscar nominations for “Blue Velvet” in 1986 and “Mulholland Drive” in 2001.

Additionally, Lynch is particularly renowned for collaborating with Mark Frost to produce the enigmatic drama series “Twin Peaks,” which first aired in 1990. After two captivating seasons, the show was unfortunately taken off air.

In the year 2017, Twin Peaks made its return for a third season that was broadcast on Showtime within the United States. During this season, Kyle MacLachlan’s character, FBI Deputy Director Gordon Cole, graced our screens.
