Soi Cheang directs Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, which is inspired by the novel and comic book City of Darkness. The film features a star-studded cast including Louis Koo, Richie Jen, Raymond Lam, and Sammo Hung. Set in the notorious Kowloon Walled City years after a brutal gang war, the story unfolds in a lawless haven for criminals and those seeking refuge. A talented fighter with a price on his head arrives and must use his skills to survive the vengeful attacks of dangerous enemies.
Director Soi Cheang announced plans for both a sequel and a prequel to Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In last October, and now filming for the sequel is about to begin. According to ScreenDaily, production will start in April, and a detailed set replicating the Kowloon Walled City is currently being built in Hong Kong. Returning cast members include Raymond Lam, Terrance Lau, German Cheung, and Tony Wu. The film will also feature production designer Kenneth Mak and action choreographer Kenji Tanigaki, both of whom previously worked on Kung Fu Jungle.

As a huge fan of martial arts films, I can tell you Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In was absolutely worth the wait! It wasn’t just a personal favorite, either – it was a massive hit in Hong Kong and critics loved it. The film really cleaned up at awards shows too, snagging a Stunt Award at the Satellite Awards and dominating the Hong Kong Film Awards last year with wins for Best Film, Best Director, Editing, Cinematography, Action Choreography, and a bunch of other categories. Seriously, it was a fantastic showing!
