As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for empathy and a deep appreciation for resilience, I must say that Derryn Hinch’s spirit is truly inspiring. At 80 years old, he has faced numerous health challenges – from heart issues to skin cancer – yet each time, he rises above it all with an unwavering zest for life. His ability to maintain a positive outlook despite the hardships is something we can all learn from.

On Boxing Day, Derryn Hinch disclosed that he had experienced a terrible accident close to Christmas, posting images of his distressing wounds.

On Christmas Day, the media figure, who is 80 years old, posted a picture on Facebook featuring himself and his partner Lynda Stoner, offering a glimpse into their holiday festivities.

Yet, a photo showed Derryn sporting large bruises on his face, which he explained in a caption as the result of a fall that left him with two black eyes.

The incident occurred a few days prior to Christmas, but he chose to reveal the severity of his injuries on Boxing Day instead, as he preferred not to spoil the holiday mood by sharing unpleasant news.

Next to the photo of him and Lynda, he wrote: ‘I held off posting this image before because I didn’t want to share sad news during the holiday season.’

‘I had a pre-Xmas fall, smacked my nose and, as a consequence, blacked both my eyes.

It seems that I suffered defeats equivalent to ten rounds against Lionel Rose. Here’s a snapshot of our Christmas Day together, featuring Lynda.

On Christmas Day, despite my physical discomfort from recent injuries, I found myself radiating positivity as I shared a meal with Lynda. My grin was as wide as the festive season itself.

Derryn and Lynda were first engaged to be married in 1981 but sadly went their separate ways.

However, they rekindled their romance 35 years later in 2016 and have been going strong ever since.

His shocking fall comes just weeks after the former Senator of Australia was admitted to hospital with a heart issue.

He had been suffering with atrial fibrillation, also known as an irregular heart beat, and underwent electroshock therapy to reset his heart rhythm.

Approximately a month ago, Derryn received a diagnosis and received treatment at a hospital in Melbourne before being discharged on the same day.

In the situation, I started feeling out of breath and thought it was unusual, so I decided to consult my doctor and underwent an electrocardiogram (ECG). This is what I shared with the Herald Sun.

‘My cardiologist booked me into hospital and on Thursday they gave me an electric shock to the heart, which is pretty scary, but it worked’ he continued.

After it regulated my heartbeat, I’ll observe how it affects my breathing over the coming weeks.

Derryn also recently underwent five weeks of daily radiation treatment amid a ‘pretty serious’ battle with skin cancer.

In February, a melanoma was found by doctors near his hairline, which they then surgically removed. However, they were unable to excise the entire affected region during that procedure.

After that, he went to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre for another surgical procedure to excise the melanoma. Currently, he’s receiving radiation therapy as a precautionary measure.

He shared with The Herald Sun that his recent facial surgeries, of which he’s had two so far, require additional radiation therapy as well. This isn’t great news for him.

The positive aspect is, they examined a location from eight years back, where I underwent surgery on the opposite side of my forehead, and it appears to be fine.

‘Each day passes and doesn’t come back; it’s irretrievable. Life can be quite grave, but as someone put it, that’s just how life goes.’
