TV host breaks his silence with reflective post about ‘washing away worries’ after revealing family’s bullying nightmare
As a seasoned lifestyle expert with over three decades of parenting experience under my belt, I wholeheartedly empathize with Barry Du Bois’ heartbreaking ordeal. Having faced similar challenges with my own children in the past, I can attest to the gut-wrenching feelings of helplessness and confusion that come with seeing your child suffer from bullying.
After a week, TV host Barry Du Bois has finally spoken up following the emotional disclosure he made on social media about his family’s experiences with bullying.
64-year-old celebrity known for The Living Room, lately posted a heartbreaking message on Instagram, detailing his difficulties in assisting his 12-year-old daughter Arabella, who is experiencing bullying at her school.
Afterwards, the seasoned host asked his audience for suggestions on ways to assist him in easing his daughter’s distress.
As a dad myself, I can attest to the fact that receiving support and advice from fellow fathers is incredibly valuable. When I faced challenges in my parenting journey, it was heartening to see other dads offering their insights and encouragement, especially those who are well-known figures in our society. The comments section of such posts became a treasure trove of shared experiences, tips, and words of wisdom that truly made a difference in my life as a dad.
On Tuesday, Barry shared some wise words about parenting that he’d received himself, accompanied by a picture of him with feet buried in the sand at Bondi Beach.
He wrote in his post, “‘Put your concerns in your pockets; I’ll take care of them when I do laundry,’ was something my lovely mother would often say.”
1. ‘It was always accompanied by a warm embrace. I plan to give it a saltwater bath at Bondi.’
Parents flocked to the comments to praise the advice and to wish Arabella the best.
“Virginia Trioli, an Australian journalist and co-host of ABC Mornings, asked if she could temporarily use that item for her son.”
Initially, Barry openly shared an emotional confession regarding the powerless sentiment parents experience when their child encounters bullying at school.
Barry said, “I’ve just seen my daughter leave through our house’s gate. It’s a spot where I know she’s secure and comfortable, feeling a sense of home and connection.”
This evening, she’s going to a location that doesn’t provide the same level of safety as her school, which is unusual for me as a parent since it’s my role to safeguard and direct her during tough situations. However, this morning, I find myself at a loss.
Yesterday, Arabella arrived home from school stating she felt ill. It seems this isn’t an unusual occurrence. Upon closer inspection, however, it appears that she isn’t truly unwell but is enduring bullying once more.
Later, Barry confessed with difficulty that he was unsure how to assist her and sought suggestions from his audience instead.
“When they try to make you feel bad, remember to stay compassionate towards them. You’re more than the words they use to hurt you.”
‘She said, “I don’t want to be special; I just want to be liked”,’ Barry added.
He also admitted he felt ‘weak, angry, confused and a little fearful’.
In a post, Tim Robards from The Bachelor Australia shared that his friend’s child was sent to Jiu Jitsu following bullying. Enthralled by the sport, she developed an additional layer of self-assurance.
According to celebrity chef Miguel Maestre, bullying is unacceptable. We must identify the source of the issue, who is responsible, and understand their motivation. Communicate with the individuals’ parents and take necessary steps, as we cannot tolerate such behavior in our community.
On occasion, I find myself needing to approach a parent directly and express, “It seems your child is bullying mine.” – Ryan Gallagher from Married At First Sight.
Based on a 2020 OECD study, it was found that Australia ranks quite high when it comes to instances of bullying in schools globally.
To effectively address schoolyard bullying, schools should promote a positive culture, implement clear anti-bullying policies, educate students and staff and provide support for victims.
The veteran presenter star shares his twins Bennett and Arabella with wife Leonie, who he married in 1999.
