Turns out Marvel’s next movie is going to be much shorter than expected
As a die-hard Marvel fan who has spent countless hours (and dollars) immersed in the intricate tapestry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I must say that I’m relieved to hear about the revised runtime for “Captain America: Brave New World.” While I have no issue with epic three-hour movies like the Lord of the Rings trilogy or The Godfather, the prospect of a nearly three-hour Captain America movie was a bit daunting.
Contrary to previous speculations that Captain America: Brave New World could be among Marvel’s longest films, recent reports indicate that the movie may instead fall into the category of shorter films produced by the studio.
To begin with, the initial runtime for “Captain America: Brave New World” was said to be 2 hours and 40 minutes, making it one of Marvel’s longest films and easily the longest Captain America film by a significant margin. However, it appears that the movie is actually approximately 30 minutes shorter than this reported duration.
According to Daniel RPK, an insider at Marvel, the duration of Anthony Mackie’s first Captain America film is estimated to be 144 minutes, which equates to approximately 2 hours and 24 seconds. This runtime appears more fitting for the movie, as a nearly three-hour Captain America film might have been intriguing but could have been too lengthy, especially given that a 2 hour and 40-minute runtime would place it among Marvel’s longest films to date.
In the fourth installment of Captain America, there’s plenty to explore, such as acknowledging the presence of the Celestial being from Eternals and the transformation of Thaddeus Ross into the Red Hulk. Additionally, we have a new Falcon taking over and Sam Wilson becoming the new Captain America. However, it seems unnecessary for the movie to run almost three hours long. Such a lengthy runtime might actually harm the film, potentially deterring some viewers from watching it in theaters.
Instead, “Captain America: Brave New World” is expected to be one of the shorter films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe library, coincidentally having the same runtime as the initial “Captain America” movie that was released in theaters.
The initial Chris Evans Captain America film, titled “Captain America: The First Avenger,” ran for approximately 2 hours and 4 minutes. Whether the runtime of “Captain America: Brave New World” matching that of the first Captain America movie was intentional or a mere coincidence remains uncertain, but it certainly feels fitting.
In terms of length, Captain America: Brave New World and Captain America: The First Avenger share the shortest running time among all Captain America films. On the other hand, Captain America: Civil War is the longest, boasting a duration of 2 hours and 27 minutes. Interestingly, Captain America: The Winter Solider fits nicely in between with a runtime of 2 hours and 16 minutes.
