Tulisa reveals how traumatising sex tape ordeal led to her demisexuality, Bell’s palsy left her depressed and I’m A Celeb exit left her hyperventilating as she breaks her silence after fleeing Australia

As I delve deeper into the captivating world of Tulisa Contostavlos, I can’t help but marvel at the rollercoaster ride her life seems to be. From her humble beginnings as a member of N-Dubz, to her successful solo career and stint as an X Factor judge, Tulisa has undoubtedly made a name for herself in the entertainment industry.

Tulisa shared insights into her troubling history, speaking out for the first time since her participation in I’m A Celebrity.

36-year-old singer drew attention this month by leaving Australia prior to the finale, choosing to avoid the spotlight following her elimination as the third celebrity to exit the jungle via viewer votes.

In an interview with The Guardian about her departure, she shared: ‘Being in the spotlight, constantly followed by cameras, made me feel like an extrovert being overwhelmed. I would become hyperventilated and cry, it was simply too intense for me alone.’

In my perspective, I pondered if the unease I felt was due to the bright limelight or perhaps an evolving desire to relinquish the glamour and glitz that comes with it.

It’s no surprise that Tulisa prefers to stay out of the limelight, given her past experiences with various controversies, such as being caught up in an undercover investigation by The Sun’s well-known Fake Sheikh.

However, she disclosed that the sex tape her ex-partner Justin Edwards shared publicly in 2012 had the most profound impact on her emotionally. Subsequently, she filed a lawsuit against him for disseminating the video, and they eventually reached a settlement during the court proceedings.

In her own words, Tulisa described the lasting impact of her trauma: “This experience has left a deep mark on me. It’s significantly influenced my romantic relationships and my sense of intimacy… I carry such intense feelings of shame about it that my perception of sex is no longer the same.

In the jungle, Tulisa shared details about her personal life, disclosing that she has abstained from sexual relationships for a span of three years and identifying herself as demisexual.

Demisexuality refers to an individual’s sexual orientation, under which they only feel sexual attraction towards others once a profound emotional bond has been established.

In her own words, Tulisa described her realization by saying, “I’ve essentially always possessed those traits. However, being the kind of person I am, coupled with the experiences I’ve encountered, has made me retreat even further within myself.

‘I only deal with people I already know. I’ve just recycled ex-boyfriends for the past 10 years. A new person coming in doesn’t have a chance.’

She also mentioned that if she doesn’t consider someone as a ‘friend’, then they wouldn’t be an attractive prospect for a romantic relationship. Simply put, she doesn’t feel the necessary attraction towards such individuals.

Yet she revealed that she doesn’t think her celibacy will last forever as she has faith that the universe will provide her with the perfect person.  

Part of Tulisa’s journey to finding love comes with her own journey of self acceptance. 

As a lifestyle advisor, I’d share my personal journey of enduring an excruciating twelve-year health struggle with Bell’s Palsy, just before stepping into the spotlight on “I’m A Celebrity.” This condition has been a challenging companion, but I stand resilient and ready to face the jungle.

2020 saw her being identified with Bell’s Palsy, a condition affecting the nervous system which results in either partial or complete facial muscle weakness, due to damage or malfunctioning of the seventh cranial nerve.

Despite initial hopes, she found herself trapped in a harmful loop where injectable fillers aimed at smoothing her looks only led to her face becoming red and puffy instead.

After experiencing a difficult period, Tulisa expressed: ‘It wasn’t enjoyable, constantly staring at myself in the mirror and disliking what I saw. Additionally, saying to myself, “This isn’t my face,” only for others to respond, “Well, it is your face now, because you’re swollen with fillers.” However, this was due to half of my face being filled with fluid, so I had fillers injected into the other half. It was a painful ordeal.’

Moments before venturing into the jungle, Tulisa underwent a procedure to remove cysts from her cheeks. She then expressed, ‘immediately, my face appeared smaller. To be truthful, I experienced a profound sense of sadness…’

After just a few days of leaving Australia, Tulisa gave an interview following her early exit from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! She also removed any evidence of her participation in the ITV program from her Instagram account.

She broke the tradition of eliminated stars remaining Down Under for the final. 

Later on, she used her Instagram to clarify the rumors surrounding her unexpected exit, stating that she was simply overwhelmed by the entire situation.

The vocalist expressed her jungle adventure, scattering multiple pictures of herself within the program along with a brief message acknowledging her regret for missing the finale and addressing her fellow camp members.

Fans were taken aback when Tulisa opted against staying at the luxurious £1,000-per-night JW Marriott on Australia’s Gold Coast, a location where her expelled co-contestants remain until the finale. Instead, she chose a different lodging.

Although rumors circulated that her breakup with friends managing her social media might be the reason for her departure, recent reports suggest instead that she left Australia due to personal battles with her mental wellbeing.

In a video earlier this month, Tulisa addressed her fans for the first time. 

On Instagram, she mentioned: “I’m making a brief video today to clarify some points. To start with, immediately after emerging from the jungle, I was feeling perfectly alright. Later on that same day, my companions retired for the night.

‘But because it’s been a while for me I can get overwhelmed quite easily. 

I’ve recently become swamped with feelings. Suddenly, I realized, “You know what? What I truly need right now is a little personal time, so I can unwind and relax.

Indeed, I must acknowledge that the weight of my absence has left me feeling somewhat overpowered. It’s been quite some time since I’ve been in the limelight, and re-emerging can be challenging. But remember, it’s perfectly normal to experience these feelings, and with patience and determination, I will navigate through this journey.

‘I’m still trying to overcome those things. I’ve still got my little demons.’

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve come across rumors swirling about an incident at a hotel following my friend Tulisa’s elimination from the show, along with her buddies, Michelle McKenna, and Daniel Johnson. However, it’s important to note that her representatives have refuted these claims.

She expressed dissatisfaction with the way her closest friends managed her Instagram account during her time in the jungle, finding their posts concerning her to be inappropriate.

As a devoted follower, I’d rephrase it like this: “I was informed that their visit to Australia was due to Tulisa. It seemed as though they were enjoying the circumstances excessively and misusing her kindness.

Michelle and Daniel accompanied the journey, which was sponsored by ITV, primarily due to Tulisa’s involvement. They were present largely because of her confidence in their abilities, and she delegated her social media responsibilities to them.

When she emerged from the jungle and beheld the sights before her, she felt anger and this led to a significant argument. It’s not hard to imagine that discovering her friends enjoying themselves so lavishly while she struggled through the jungle would have greatly irritated her.

In a luxurious five-star hotel, their costs covered, left Tulisa feeling somewhat unfair, they mentioned.

I was absolutely crushed when I saw that post, and my immediate instinct was to remove it from sight without delay.

The singer behind “I Need You” swiftly erased every evidence of her jungle experience and declined all invitations for ITV appearances.

On account of personal matters, the singer from Ouch decided not to participate in I’m A Celebrity… Unpacked alongside Joel Dommett, Kemi Rodgers, and Sam Thompson, following her elimination the previous day.

Tulisa later took to her Instagram stories denying she had argued with Michelle and Dan. 

However, she still appeared in I’m A Celebrity’s spin-off show Coming Out. 

In the “Coming Out” series, celebrities are tracked by cameras as soon as they exit the camp, with Tulisa appearing on-camera briefly before she departed from Australia unexpectedly.
