Tulisa explains how she predicted her I’m A Celeb elimination and reveals her secret ‘kick-offs’ with ITV over ‘unacceptable’ jungle conditions
As I delve into the life of Tulisa Contostavlos, a woman who has faced her fair share of trials and tribulations, I can’t help but be in awe of her resilience and strength. From her rise to fame as a member of N-Dubz, to her stint as an X Factor judge, and her recent participation in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, Tulisa has consistently proven that she is a force to be reckoned with.
Tulisa Contostavlos shared additional details about her experience on “I’m A Celebrity,” confessing that she often took on the role of a protester within the camp and accurately forecasted her own departure.
36-year-old member of N-Dubz, the celebrity in question, became the third contestant to leave the jungle following the lowest viewer votes, promptly returning to the United Kingdom after departing from Australia.
She’s since disclosed that the reason she hurried home was due to intense anxiety and feeling swamped by the presence of all the cameras.
This week, Tulisa appeared on GK Barry’s podcast, where she provided additional insight into her jungle experience. She acknowledged having some disagreements with ITV and expressed the belief that her reserved personality may have contributed to her elimination through viewer voting.
Being a devoted admirer, I must confess that when Tulisa was eliminated, I too felt a jolt of surprise. However, upon reflection, I realized it wasn’t entirely unexpected. I had observed that her screen time seemed to dwindle, hinting at the possibility that she might be next to go.
“Did you know that the amount of screen time you get on the show can be gauged by the frequency of your calls to the Bush Telegraph and the number of questions they ask you? That’s because, as the narrator, I’m sharing what’s being aired in real-time.
As the date approached, my calls from the BT decreased significantly, and fewer questions were posed to me. This left me thinking, “Ah.
She mentioned, “However, by that point, I had slipped into an introverted state as I was becoming overloaded. Consequently, I wasn’t very engaged with the camp activities much to begin with.
‘So in my mind I was like I might end up going because I knew I wasn’t getting much airtime.’
In addition, they talked about how Tulisa had taken on an informal role as the representative of the group, frequently voicing concerns about the living conditions to the higher-ups.
It came to light that the previous judge on The X Factor publicly criticized ITV in response to the credit card trickery, where celebrities were required to spend money for access to water and bathroom facilities.
Tulisa shared that she experienced intense menstrual pains in the jungle because of her endometriosis, and GK stated bluntly, “Surviving in the jungle during your period isn’t a laughing matter.
Later on, Tulisa remembered that she’d expressed concerns over the fact that the amount spent by each individual on using the restroom was being filmed.
She said: ‘It would obviously come up at the end of the day how many times you’ve gone to the loo. I wasn’t happy about that.
“ITV is handling this poorly. I exclaimed, ‘I will not allow my private moments to be aired on national television. You need to make changes immediately!’
Later, I exclaimed, “GK isn’t allowed to share the bathroom for changing her tampon since that’s a form of ‘tampon tax,’ which is unfair! The next day, it mysteriously disappeared.
She confessed that she too became upset about the living conditions that both Maura Higgins and Reverend Richard Coles experienced upon their arrival as latecomers. They were initially provided with only essential items, lacking a fire or beds.
Little did my fellow campers know, I harbored a hidden truth – a secret oasis shared by none other than Maura and Reverend Richard. Nestled away from the bustling heart of our shared campsite was an unspoken haven; a sanctuary boasting a grand double bed and a spacious bathtub, a luxurious contrast to our simple camping arrangements.
As a dedicated follower, I humbly admit that I lost my temper with ITV before the reality set in for the celebrities. In a moment of passion, I exclaimed: “I couldn’t believe Maura was shivering as if she had hypothermia, and I demanded, ‘This is unacceptable! You can’t leave them in such a state; we are not being held captive here!’
I served as the protester, advocating for camp rights. Since others felt the same way but were afraid to speak out, I stepped up and faced some confrontations.
In another part of our conversation, she mentioned her difficulty adjusting to always being under the spotlight and surrounded by crowds, expressing: ‘At first, I was petrified at the thought of being watched, with cameras everywhere, returning to the bustling world of prime-time television, and having no privacy whatsoever. It pushed me into a state of overwhelming anxiety.’
She mentioned, “I have moments where I’m quite outgoing, but afterward, I can be silent for an entire week without talking to anyone. Eventually, it felt excessive, and my introverted side began to feel overwhelmed.
Tulisa openly acknowledged that participating in the show made her question if fame was truly compatible for her. She assertively stated she had the privilege to depart Australia earlier than anticipated and avoid the finale along with her fellow campmates.
Apologies, but given my recent experiences, I’ve earned myself a break. I’m not here for the limelight; I just want to return home and seek solace beneath some comforting shelter, like a humble rock.
Over the past few days, you could tell that I was reaching my limit. I find it hard to deal with things unless I’m all by myself. When I finally had some solitude with a glass of wine, I couldn’t hold back the tears.
Then, I felt quite pleased with myself for accomplishing this feat, yet realized I may have overextended myself prematurely.
Reflecting on my plan to return in front of the camera tomorrow, a wave of anxiety hit me, causing me to breathe heavily. To calm myself down, I turned to social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, only to find myself constantly popping up, which made me feel even more overwhelmed, saying to myself “I can’t handle this.
In simpler terms, ‘I found myself overwhelmed by too much stimuli, as if being filmed all the time isn’t challenging enough. For someone like me who has recently overcome agoraphobia, taking this step was quite daunting.’
Tulisa admitted: ‘I went home and I stared at the wall for four days. I watched the Lord of The Rings trilogy and didn’t even speak to anyone at all. I needed to realign. I think the show made me realise maybe this is just not for me.’
Tulisa quickly departed Australia just a few days after being eliminated from the jungle, as she erased any evidence of her participation in the ITV program from her Instagram account.
Later on, she used her Instagram platform to clarify the rumors surrounding her unexpected exit, stating that she was feeling ‘swamped’ by the entire situation.
Previously, she shared details about her hidden health struggle during an incredibly candid conversation on the We Need To Talk podcast hosted by Paul C Brunson.
In the first segment of Paul’s podcast, Tulisa candidly discussed the challenges she encountered with her mental well-being, both during her time in the jungle and after her departure. Notably, she confessed that it was difficult for her to join in the cheerful camaraderie among the campers while she was spending time crying in her hotel room instead.
Furthermore, Tulisa shared an account of a time when she considered leaving the program, as she experienced a distressing anxiety attack that reduced her to tears and made it difficult for her to breathe. This emotional incident was not depicted on television, according to The Mirror’s report.
In her discussion about hidden struggles, Tulisa shared: ‘There were instances you didn’t witness, but for the initial four days, I experienced intense nightmares and sudden anxiety attacks while asleep.’
Speaking candidly about a harrowing moment that nearly caused me to depart from the show prematurely, here’s what I shared: “To be honest, there was a time when tears welled up during the recording, but off-camera, I experienced a full-blown anxiety attack. In an attempt to hide it, I sought solace in the smoking area and even tried to calm myself down by focusing on controlling my breathing through my nostrils.
I found myself saying, “Let’s lower that heart rate. Let’s lower that heart rate.” On that day, I yearned to depart. I was thinking, “I can’t handle this, but this isn’t why I came. I came here to persevere and do whatever needs to be done.
Those times were filled with numerous awe-inspiring, genuinely heartwarming instances, all due to the wonderful individuals around us. It was their presence that created these special moments.
After being the one to leave the jungle and return to the UK third in line, Tulisa shared that her return to normal life felt overwhelmingly introverted, confessing she had been experiencing hyperventilation and tears.
I can totally relate to why Tulisa might feel hesitant about being in the limelight, given her past experiences with high-profile incidents such as that drug scandal instigated by The Sun’s infamous Fake Sheikh. It’s a tough spot to be in, but I admire her resilience and strength.
In her conversation with Paul, she elaborated on the ways her introversion had influenced her experiences in camp, and also discussed how it impacted her interactions following her eviction. This included time spent with the families of other contestants, as well as welcoming newly eliminated celebrities at their luxurious Gold Coast hotel.
Tulisa shared: “I’m quite an introverted person. Things were getting a bit too much in there, so I tended to stay away from camp as much as possible. I would often take long walks or seek solace by hiding out in the bathroom. In fact, about 90% of my time was spent alone.
Due to my prolonged solitude and agoraphobia, being surrounded by numerous people made me feel incredibly overloaded. Noticing this, they showed great empathy and would humorously comment, “She must have gone to the vacation rental, she’ll return soon.
Upon stepping out, what really pushed me beyond my limits was an accumulation of introvert exhaustion. I had been putting myself in situations that were challenging, determined to conquer my apprehensions about the limelight. However, the constant scrutiny, day after day, left me without any place to hide or escape. I felt completely exposed – everyone could see me, and there was this persistent, perhaps unreasonable, fear of being watched.
She further explained that constantly sensing someone’s gaze was akin to being ‘under observation’ or monitored by Mazher Mahmood, who was then a journalist for The Sun on Sunday and infamously known as the “Fake Sheik”. He deceived her into providing him with a contact from whom he subsequently purchased £800 worth of cocaine.
As I found myself surrounded by the cheerful guests at the hotel, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of my past experiences bearing down on me. It wasn’t easy for me to join in the festivities or put up a facade of being alright, as I struggled to connect with others in the moment.
She shared: ‘I did what I signed up for, but I came out, I processed, I was feeling the way I was feeling. There’s 11 other really happy campers there that are really happy to be there, happy to have the holiday and do it all with energy, with smiles, and you have someone that’s sat crying in their hotel room.
In today’s world we find ourselves in, it seems to me as if you’re asking me to be present due to some principle, yet I’m struggling emotionally at this moment. I feel the need to retreat and deal with what I’m going through privately. For others who are not sharing the same feelings, they may have had different experiences in the past or are accustomed to appearing on radio or TV. To me, this situation feels like a personal psychological exploration for myself.
In her words, she expressed that ITV was exceptionally accommodating, stating, “ITV was incredibly helpful, as they understood my situation and provided the necessary support for me to take care of myself.
The acclaimed young artist shared some personal details about what she did upon returning home to the UK. She disclosed that her initial day was spent resting in bed and taking a break from social media and her mobile device for a detox.
She mentioned: “For the initial 24 hours, I seemed to be contemplating while under the blankets, with my phone turned off, probably. Later, I decided to watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy since I’m a bit of a nerd and find solace in escapism when I feel swamped.
For the past four days, I’ve been taking a break from my phone and social media, spending time in bed. Those close to me understand my nature, and their reaction was, “It’s alright, take your time,” as they had to interact with others because people were inquiring about me due to my absence. The general sentiment being, “We can’t reach her. She’s gone off the grid. Is she okay?
My dearest companions, the ones I hold most dear, have been expressing that I am in a state of renewal, they say I am ‘taking time to rejuvenate, taking a break to gather strength’.
While in the jungle, Tulisa shared some personal insights about her romantic life. She disclosed that she’s abstained from intimate relationships for the past three years and identified herself as demisexual.
Demisexuality refers to a type of sexual orientation in which an individual feels sexual attraction exclusively or predominantly after developing a deep emotional bond with another person.
In her own words, Tulisa explained that her nature has always been somewhat reserved, but the encounters she’s experienced have pushed her even further into introspection, making her more introverted.
‘I tend to interact solely with individuals I’m familiar with. For the last decade, I’ve been repeating relationships with former partners. When it comes to meeting someone new, chances are slim.’
If someone isn’t someone she considers a friend, then she wouldn’t feel attracted to them romantically. Simply put, they don’t stir up romantic feelings in her.
Yet she revealed that she doesn’t think her celibacy will last forever as she has faith that the universe will provide her with the perfect person.
Tulisa Contostavlos, a member of the N-Dubz group, shared her harrowing 12-year struggle with Bell’s palsy before entering “I’m A Celebrity.
In 2020, she received a diagnosis of Bell’s Palsy, which is a condition affecting the facial nerves, leading to partial or complete facial muscle weakness or paralysis on one side.
However, she found herself trapped in a harmful loop where injecting fillers for an improved look led to her face becoming red and puffy instead.
After enduring her hardship, Tulisa expressed: ‘It wasn’t enjoyable, spending each day staring at myself and despising what I saw. Additionally, thinking: “This isn’t my face”, only to have people respond: “Well, it is your face now, because you’re filled with filler.” However, this was due to the fact that half of my face was swollen with fluid, so I had fillers injected into the other half. It was agonizing.’
Moments before venturing into the jungle, Tulisa underwent a procedure to remove cysts on her cheeks, and she commented: “Immediately, my face seemed reduced in size. To be frank, I experienced deep sadness over this…
In a video earlier this month, Tulisa addressed her fans for the first time.
In an Instagram post, she explained: “Making a brief video today to clarify some matters. To start off, upon leaving the jungle, I initially felt good, but later in the evening, my friends retired for the night.
Because it has been some time since I last did this task, I find myself getting overloaded rather quickly. Suddenly, I felt swamped. I paused and reflected, “You know what, I truly need a moment to myself to unwind and relax.
You understand that it’s perfectly fine to experience feelings of being overloaded. Frankly, I’ve been away from the limelight for quite some time now, and I’m still working through some issues. To put it simply, I’m still battling with a few personal challenges.
Rumors emerged that Tulisa got into an argument at a hotel following her elimination on the show, accompanied by her friends Michelle McKenna and Daniel Johnson. However, these allegations have been refuted by Tulisa’s representatives.
It seems she wasn’t satisfied with how her closest friends managed her Instagram account during her time in the jungle, as they posted content about her that she considered inappropriate.
According to a source, TopMob was informed that the individuals were in Australia specifically due to Tulisa. It seemed as though they were enjoying the circumstances and overstepping the bounds of her generosity.
Michelle and Daniel attended the trip, which was sponsored by ITV, primarily due to Tulisa’s influence. Their presence was largely due to her, and she entrusted them with managing her social media accounts.
Leaving the jungle, she discovered what was arranged there, causing her great distress which led to a significant argument. It’s not hard to imagine that witnessing her companions enjoying themselves while she endured the harshness of the jungle might have greatly irritated her.
They mentioned that the group was staying at a luxurious hotel, where their costs were covered, but it seemed somewhat unfair to Tulisa, they said.
She was extremely upset upon seeing the post, and she felt an immediate need to remove it right away.
In a swift move, the artist who sang “I Need You” wiped clean any evidence of her jungle experience and skipped all planned events with ITV.
On the day following her elimination, the singer from Ouch decided not to participate in I’m A Celebrity… Unpacked alongside Joel Dommett, Kemi Rodgers, and Sam Thompson, stating that she had personal matters requiring her attention.
Tulisa later took to her Instagram stories denying she had argued with Michelle and Dan.
However, she still appeared in I’m A Celebrity’s spin-off show Coming Out.
In the reality series “Coming Out”, famous personalities are tracked by cameras starting from when they depart the camp. However, Tulisa was captured on camera for a brief time only before she decided to leave Australia prematurely.
