Trump threatens to sue Trevor Noah over Epstein joke at Grammys: ‘Going to have some fun with you!’

President Trump called Sunday’s Grammy Awards “virtually unwatchable,” but he still tuned in and criticized comedian Trevor Noah’s performance as host.

Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he plans to sue comedian Trevor Noah. This comes after Trump criticized a recent music awards show that aired on CBS, calling it “garbage.” He’s specifically taking legal action because of a joke Noah made connecting him to Bill Clinton and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

A representative for Noah did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Following Billie Eilish and Finneas winning Song of the Year – after Billie made a pointed comment about immigration enforcement – host Noah joked that it was an award every artist coveted, comparing it to Donald Trump’s desire to purchase Greenland.

Bad Bunny’s album of the year win was a historic moment for the Grammys. Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Dean were also major winners at the show.

Noah joked that since Epstein’s island is no longer available, Bill Clinton must need a new private retreat.

Jeffrey Epstein, who died in jail in 2019, owned an island in the U.S. Virgin Islands and was facing federal charges of sex trafficking of minors at the time of his death. Previously, in 2008, he pleaded guilty in Florida to soliciting prostitution, including involving a minor, and served just over a year of an 18-month sentence. He was also required to register as a sex offender.

Noah mentioned Epstein shortly after the Justice Department made over 3 million pages of investigative documents about the deceased financier public on Friday.

Trump, clearly, was not a fan of the line.

After the event, President Trump used his Truth Social account to strongly deny claims made by Noah about his alleged involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. Trump stated that reports of him and Bill Clinton visiting Epstein’s island were false and that he had never been anywhere near it.

Trevor Noah playfully teased Nicki Minaj, Jelly Roll, Justin Bieber, and Jeff Bezos during his closing remarks at the Grammy Awards.

Trump claimed he wasn’t accused of visiting Epstein’s island until Noah made what he called a ‘false and defamatory’ statement. However, photos exist of Trump with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s girlfriend who is currently in prison.

The president didn’t stop there, demanding Noah immediately verify his information. He then followed up with a legal warning.

He announced he would be taking legal action against the rapper, claiming he intends to sue for a significant amount of money.

In his online post, Trump also mentioned past defamation lawsuits where ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos and CBS News were involved. He concluded by saying, “Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you! President DJT”.

Awards

Here’s a live update on the winners of the 2026 Grammy Awards. Olivia Dean took home the award for Best New Artist, while Billie Eilish and Finneas won for Song of the Year. Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA won Record of the Year, and Bad Bunny was awarded Album of the Year.

Documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein, released in December, showed that Donald Trump was mentioned in tips sent to the Department of Justice before the 2020 election. The DOJ previously dismissed these claims as untrue.

Donald Trump again addressed the situation involving Jeffrey Epstein on Monday, stating he never went to Epstein’s island. Meanwhile, the Republican chair of the House Oversight Committee was in talks with representatives from Bill Clinton’s camp. This happened as the House prepared to vote on whether to hold both Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton in criminal contempt of Congress for refusing to testify last month regarding Epstein.

Noah hosted the Grammys for the sixth and final time on Sunday. He continued to host the awards show even after leaving his role at Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” in late 2022. Following a period of guest hosts, Jon Stewart, also a former host of “The Daily Show,” returned to the show in 2024.

Noah faced backlash after Sunday’s event, not only from the president but also from Nicki Minaj. This came after the comedian joked about Minaj’s recent vocal support for Trump, including her calling herself his “No. 1 fan” during a public appearance in Washington, D.C. last week.

Minaj responded to Noah’s dig, tweeting a cryptic post speculating about Noah’s sexuality.

Beginning in 2027, the Grammy Awards will be broadcast on Disney platforms, ending a run of over 50 years on CBS. Highlights of the most recent awards show included wins for artists like Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Olivia Dean, and Lola Young.
