“60 Minutes” is back in President Trump’s crosshairs.
Following a Sunday interview with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene – a Georgia Republican who previously strongly supported him and is retiring in January – Donald Trump criticized the respected CBS News program.
In a frank interview, Lesley Stahl spoke with Marjorie Taylor Greene about her strained relationship with Donald Trump. Greene revealed that Trump labeled her a ‘traitor,’ resulting in threats against her and her family. She also expressed concern that Trump isn’t prioritizing the issues his base cares about and suggested many of her fellow lawmakers support him out of fear, not genuine belief.
I saw that Trump went off on Truth Social, attacking Marjorie Taylor Greene and CBS News. Apparently, CBS paid him a hefty $16 million to settle a lawsuit he brought against them. It all stemmed from how they handled an interview with Kamala Harris, who he’s running against in 2024. It’s just the latest chapter in what seems like a never-ending series of disputes for him.
In a recent post, Trump claimed Marjorie Taylor Greene became critical of him because she felt rejected by him, suggesting this wasn’t the first time she’d experienced such disappointment. He also insulted her, calling her a “low IQ traitor.”
However, Trump stated his main issue wasn’t the interview itself, but the fact that Paramount allowed it to be broadcast. He had previously spoken positively about CBS News, especially after Paramount was acquired by Skydance Media, whose CEO David Ellison – and his father Larry – have a good rapport with the president.
Donald Trump recently praised the appointment of Bari Weiss as editor in chief at CBS News. Weiss joined CBS News after her news platform, The Free Press, was acquired by Paramount. She and Trump connected when he was interviewed for a recent segment of “60 Minutes.”
But the good vibes didn’t last long.
Trump posted, “They’re no different than the previous owners, the ones who paid me millions for making up stories about me!” He added that since the new owners took over, the show 60 Minutes has actually declined in quality.”
Trump concluded his statement by calling for a full apology from Lesley Stahl and 60 Minutes, though he admitted it wouldn’t really matter at this point. He claimed Stahl made false and defamatory statements regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Representatives for CBS News did not respond to a request for comment.
Marjorie Taylor Greene’s disagreements with Donald Trump started when she publicly supported the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Since then, she’s found herself voting with Democrats on issues like funding for the Affordable Care Act, and she’s publicly criticized the White House’s policies regarding Israel. She’s also expressed frustration that the White House hasn’t paid enough attention to voters’ worries about the increasing cost of living.
The woman, once a devoted supporter and often seen wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, also criticized her Republican colleagues in Congress, claiming they support Donald Trump because they’re afraid of facing consequences if they don’t.
Greene believes people are afraid to disagree or challenge the status quo because they don’t want to be publicly criticized on Truth Social.
Greene hinted that many of her colleagues say things about Trump in private that would surprise people, suggesting they don’t publicly share their true opinions.
Greene described how her colleagues initially mocked a candidate – ridiculing his speaking style and even her for supporting him. However, after he won the primary election in 2024, she said they abruptly changed their tune, enthusiastically supporting him and publicly displaying their support with MAGA hats.
