Donald Trump said he thought Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show was “absolutely terrible” and among the worst he’s ever seen.
Trump posted on Truth Social that the situation is an insult to America and disrespectful to our nation.
As a huge music fan, I was so excited to see Bad Bunny—Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio—absolutely kill it at the Super Bowl! It was a historic performance, seriously. He was the first artist to do the entire halftime show in Spanish, except for one song where Lady Gaga joined him and sang in English. It was a really special moment.
Referring to the emphasis on Spanish, Trump stated that “nobody understands a word this guy is saying.” It’s worth noting that Spanish is a widely spoken language, with a 2023 study revealing nearly 500 million native speakers globally.

Donald Trump had previously called the choice of Bad Bunny to perform at the Super Bowl “ridiculous,” and stated he wasn’t familiar with the Puerto Rican artist.
The President joined other conservatives in supporting Turning Point USA’s alternative to the Super Bowl halftime show. This show, called the “All American Halftime Show,” included performances by artists like Kid Rock, a well-known supporter of Donald Trump. When asked about the President’s viewing plans last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that he likely preferred Kid Rock over Bad Bunny.
During his Grammy Awards acceptance speeches on February 1st, Bad Bunny spoke out against the Trump Administration’s policies regarding immigration enforcement.
The musician publicly criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), declaring, “Before thanking God, I want to say: End ICE!”
He emphasized, “We are simply humans, and we are Americans. It’s hard not to feel anger these days, and I’ve been thinking about how hatred spreads. It’s like when something gets contaminated – it’s hard to explain exactly, but hate just grows stronger when it’s met with more hate.”
While Bad Bunny didn’t specifically refer to the Trump Administration during his performance on Sunday, he focused on promoting a message of togetherness.

As he finished performing, he raised a football with the words “Together, we are America” written on it. Behind him, a screen showed the message: “Love is more powerful than hate.”
During a performance, Bad Bunny said “God Bless America” and then mentioned several countries and territories, such as Puerto Rico, as people waved flags behind him.
Many important people complimented the performance, among them California Governor Gavin Newsom. His reaction was notably different from that of former President Trump.
California Governor Gavin Newsom praised Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance, calling it “America, the beautiful.” Newsom’s office also described the set as visually stunning. Before the performance, he officially proclaimed Super Bowl Sunday as “Bad Bunny Day” in California, announcing the news in a social media post that seemed to playfully imitate former President Trump’s online style.
