“Truly terrifying” hit horror video game is getting a movie adaptation

The highly feared horror video game sensation, “Phasmophobia,” is set to be transformed into a movie by the creators behind “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and “The Conjuring.

In 2020, the game developed by Kinetic Games allows players to take on the character of a ghost hunter, exploring different locales reportedly haunted by mysterious spirits.

For 2020, a game from Kinetic Games has players stepping into the shoes of a paranormal investigator, delving into various places rumored to be haunted by unidentified entities.

Originally launched for PC platforms before making its way to consoles last year, the popular game “Phasmophobia” has now been announced for a big-screen adaptation. Kinetic Games confirmed that a film version of the game is in development, with collaboration from Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster on the project.

Daniel Knight, Director of Kinetic Games, declared with excitement, “We’re delighted to officially unveil that a movie based on Phasmophobia is under production!” This is a significant milestone for our entire team at Kinetic, and the beginning of an incredibly thrilling journey.

Five years ago, we never dreamt that ‘Phasmophobia’ would scale such extraordinary heights when it was first released. We owe a deep gratitude to our incredible community for the enduring influence this game has had on the gaming world and beyond.

As I embark on this exciting journey collaborating with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, I’m thrilled about the fresh direction our game is taking. I can hardly contain my excitement as we move forward, ready to reveal more details as the project unfolds, being the lead developer myself on this video game.

Blumhouse Productions is widely recognized for its contributions to the horror genre, boasting popular franchises like The Purge, Insidious, Paranormal Activity, and Five Nights at Freddy’s. Furthermore, the studio has earned praise for movies such as Get Out, The Invisible Man, and Speak No Evil, which are not strictly horror but have also made significant impacts in the film industry.

The production company, Atomic Monster, helmed by renowned director James Wan, is responsible for creating the chilling universe we know as The Conjuring. Their latest projects have ventured into humorous interpretations of horror, like the spooky comedy M3GAN and the amusing offering titled The Monkey.

Over the past few years, Phasmophobia, marketed as a one-of-a-kind mix of intense paranormal exploration and team-based gameplay, has been a huge success among gamers. According to Kinetic Games, it’s sold over 23 million copies worldwide.

As a gamer, I can personally vouch for the fact that this game has been highly acclaimed by critics. PC Gamer labeled it as downright terrifying, even going so far as to hail it as the best ghost game ever created. Polygon, on the other hand, found it brilliant and commended the studio for masterfully executing the intricate details characteristic of this genre.

Phasmophobia has no release date yet.

The premiere issue of our print magazine, “British Comedy Legends,” is available for purchase! Grab a copy from your local newsagent or buy it online, now going for only £3.99.
