I’m so excited to hear that *The Day of the Jackal* is coming back for a second season! I absolutely loved the first one with Eddie Redmayne as the Jackal and Lashana Lynch as the agent trying to stop him. It’s a bit of a shake-up, but they’ve brought in a new lead writer for the next season, which should be interesting. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!
So, I just heard that the main writer, Ronan Bennett, is leaving the writing team for the show, but he’s still going to be around as an executive producer, which is good. Now, David Harrower – you might know him from *Lockerbie: A Search for Truth* on Sky – is taking over writing the next set of episodes. Variety was the first to report it, by the way.
The Day of the Jackal is a modern update of the popular 1973 film and Frederick Forsyth’s original novel, both with the same title.
What to Read Next
The series has been well-received by critics, earning a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an 85% approval score based on 54 reviews.

Critics are calling Eddie Redmayne’s performance in the film ‘reptilian,’ highlighting his ability to completely transform into the character – a skilled assassin known for his disguises.
According to a review in *The Times of India*, while the plot of this spy story isn’t groundbreaking, the actors deliver strong performances that make it worth watching.
While the story isn’t particularly original, the way it’s told and the actors’ performances are what make it special.
The website *Decider* called the show a thrilling cat-and-mouse game, noting that both the killer and the MI6 agent, Bianca, are highly skilled in their areas of expertise.
Although Comic Book Resources praised the remake as a return to classic thrillers, some critics have noted its flaws, including slow pacing and uninspired plots.

According to IndieWire, the show tries to do too much and not enough at the same time, whether because Peacock requested a lengthy 10-hour season or the creators felt that much time was necessary.
In a review, *The Daily Beast* pointed out that the show moved slowly at times and featured unengaging storylines. They also felt the ending wasn’t very satisfying, and criticized the series for not making the most of Eddie Redmayne’s strong performance.
The series features a strong cast including Úrsula Corberó (known from *Money Heist*) as Nuria, the Jackal’s wife, Chukwudi Iwuji as Osita Halcrow, Bianca’s supervisor at MI6, and Charles Dance playing Timothy Winthrop, the Jackal’s boss.
You can watch season 1 of The Day of the Jackal on Sky in the UK and Peacock in the US. Good news for fans – a second season is also planned!
