Troye Sivan’s perfect response to outrageous ‘homophobic’ claims about his behaviour on his Sweat tour with Charli XCX
As a long-time fan who has followed Troye Sivan’s career since his YouTube days, I find it disheartening to see such baseless and homophobic accusations being thrown around. It’s 2024, and it seems some people still believe that touring is just about hooking up on Grindr. Troye has proven time and again that he’s a talented artist with a dedicated fanbase who supports his music.
Troye Sivan labeled the assertions that his tour with Charli XCX is solely for meeting individuals on Grindr as “truly homophobic.
As a die-hard admirer, I couldn’t help but jump into the fray when The OneRepublic frontman, at 29 years young, didn’t hold back in his fiery response to a now-vanished ‘blind item’. This intriguing tidbit, initially shared by TikTok’s Celebritea Blinds, had certainly caught my attention.
There were reports suggesting that the joint North American Sweat tour featuring Troye and Charli XCX wasn’t selling tickets as well as expected.
It also went on to claim Troye didn’t care about ticket sales and was only interested in hooking up with men via the gay dating app Grindr.
According to a rumor, it was suggested that his record label has no impact on his concert tours, which means that he doesn’t seem overly concerned with album sales.
‘He is just happy to be on the road and hitting Grindr at every stop.’
A clearly annoyed Troye took to TikTok to respond to the claims.
‘Straight people are getting way too comfortable,’ he said in the short rebuttal video.
‘I released an album. I am touring the album with Charli XCX.
“Our tour consists of 22 concerts nationwide, with 95% of them already sold out. Unfortunately, ticket sales for our show in Nashville are lagging behind; it’s currently only 78% sold.
Troye added that he didn’t need an app to cultivate relationships.
He stated, “It’s incorrect and deeply disrespectful to imply that I’m using my travel across the country as an opportunity to use Grindr at each location. This is a harmful stereotype.
“Please refrain from shaming me about my sexuality. I don’t have to go across the country to find companionship. I have that option available anywhere, including Los Angeles.
In his sign off, he reiterated that tickets were actually selling for the 22-date tour.
He’s going on tour since his new album was released, and it seems like folks are purchasing concert tickets, so essentially, it’s a testament to his success, he stated.
This week, aligning with the tour, I’ve just shared a freshly remixed rendition of Charli XCX’s track Talk Talk from her BRAT album. This time, it features Troye.
The duo is scheduled to take the stage at multiple North American venues such as New York City’s Madison Square Garden on the 23rd of September, and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum on the 15th of October.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that although the much-anticipated Sweat tour won’t make its way to Australia this time, the talented Troye Sivan is set to return home in November for his initial Australian headlining tour in five years. Get ready, Aussies! It’s going to be a fantastic show.
Kicks off his “Something To Give Each Other” tour in Perth on November 17 (Sunday), then travels to Adelaide on November 19 (Tuesday).
After that, he is scheduled to perform at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on Thursday, November 21st. He’ll have a brief break afterward before his performance at the Riverstage in Brisbane on Tuesday, November 26th.
