Troye Sivan reveals his father's harrowing brush with death after getting shot in the head with a nail gun

As an ardent fan of Troye Sivan, I find myself awestruck by the resilience and fortitude that this extraordinary artist embodies. His life experiences have not only fueled his creativity but also imbued him with a profound sense of gratitude for the little moments in life. The harrowing incident involving his father’s near-death experience due to a nail gun accident underscores the fragility and preciousness of life, yet Troye manages to transform such adversity into inspiration.

Troye Sivan shared that his father experienced a near-death incident when he was accidentally injured by a nail gun, receiving a shot in the head.

29-year-old Australian singer reminisced about the harrowing incident involving his father Shaun Mellet, who nearly lost his life earlier this year following an unexpected accident, during a chat on The Project on Thursday.

Troye contemplated his gratitude for being able to share his triumphs at the 2024 ARIA Awards with Shaun, as he was awarded three trophies during the event held just a few days ago.

One of your music artists tearfully expressed that it’s nothing short of a wonder his father is still living, given that he was struck by a nail gun and had a 5-centimeter nail embedded in his brain.

Troye shared, “This year, my father experienced an unexpected mishap, but thankfully, he’s perfectly okay now. It makes me especially appreciative that he was here to witness everything with me.

‘It’s so crazy, he got shot in the head with a nail gun and a 5cm nail went into his brain.

‘He had to have emergency surgery and he’s completely fine, but it’s a miracle honestly.’

Later on, Troye displayed the startling X-ray containing a 5 cm nail lodged within Shaun’s skull to the host, Rove McManus.

‘Holy s**t. That’s terrifying!’ Rove replied as he looked at the scan.

Luckily, Shaun made a full recovery from the frightening injury and had the chance to accompany his son at the ARIA Awards, joined by Troye’s mother, Laurelle.

On Wednesday, Troye swept through the music awards, claiming Album of the Year, Best Pop Release for Something to Give Each Other, and the title of Best Solo Artist.

However, an amusing incident occurred when he jokingly referred to his personal life during his acceptance speech for Album of the Year, causing his mother to blush.

Troye unveiled that his third studio album originated during Melbourne’s periods between Covid-19 lockdowns, a time when he was on his own and feeling desolate.

In brief moments when optimism arises, I began socializing with strangers, he shared with the crowded audience at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion.

‘I wrote this album about a random stranger that I never saw again.’

Laurelle, who was part of the audience, appeared noticeably stunned by his honesty, even going so far as to cover her ears at one point.

Later on, the musician who created hits for Rush disclosed that they actually met again, this time at a Melbourne wine bar.

Troye revealed their encounter helped provide inspiration for his award-winning album.

He expressed that music is incredibly enjoyable. He suggested trying something new for the night, possibly connecting with someone. Who knows what might transpire, he finished his discourse.
