Troubled Peaky Blinders star Paul Anderson reveals next acting role in rare post after missing out on starring in iconic series’ Netflix movie

Paul Anderson, known for his role in Peaky Blinders, shared a cheerful post on Instagram Friday announcing his new acting project.

The 48-year-old actor wasn’t able to return as Arthur Shelby Jr. in the recent Netflix film, following some difficulties in his personal life. The movie starred Cillian Murphy.

Dressed as a soldier and striking a victorious pose, the actor revealed he’ll be portraying Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery (1887-1976) in the new war film, Fortitude. The movie will also feature Nicholas Cage and Matthew Goode.

He shared a thoughtful message with his post: ‘Understanding why you’re fighting is what separates chaos from control.’ He quoted Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, who said, ‘Every soldier needs to understand how their work contributes to the overall goal.’

This man believed in a simple idea: when soldiers understand the overall goal, they’ll act responsibly without needing constant supervision. #FILM #FORTITUDE #ACTOR #PAULANDERSON

Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, has explained why Tom Hardy’s character, Alfie Solomons, won’t be in the upcoming movie, despite appearing throughout all six seasons of the show.

The movie showed that Cillian Murphy’s character, Tommy, had killed his brother Arthur, who was addicted to opium, but the actual killing happened before the scene shown on screen.

According to showrunner Knight, the actor won’t be returning. He explained to The Hollywood Reporter that the storyline dictated the cast, and the story had already established that the character needed to have committed an unforgivable act.

That’s why the story unfolded as it did. And regarding Paul, I just want to say that he’s a truly talented actor.

In December 2023, Anderson’s life took a turn for the worse when he was found with crack cocaine and amphetamines in a pub bathroom. Customers reported smelling drug fumes coming from the area.

People are growing worried about his health after a very difficult year, and a friend described it as painful to see him struggling.

Since acting roles have become scarce, and he wasn’t included in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, Paul has been earning income through personalized video messages on Cameo – costing around £150 each – and by making appearances at various events.

Last year, Anderson was photographed with a high-end electric BMW motorcycle at the company’s main showroom on Park Lane.

However, a few weeks later, he was found driving an uninsured vehicle in north London, close to his home in Hampstead.

He was found guilty on March 6, 2025, at Bexley Magistrates Court. Since he didn’t show up for the hearing, his sentencing will be scheduled for a later time.

The Daily Mail reported that he was accused of missing a required drug rehabilitation meeting with a social worker. This followed a positive drug test last year, where he was found with crack cocaine in a pub restroom.

According to the Daily Mail, after pleading guilty to possessing crack cocaine and amphetamines in January 2024, he reportedly missed a required meeting with a social worker. This meeting was meant to assess whether he was struggling with drug addiction.

According to court records, a drug test taken in January 2024 revealed the presence of cocaine and opiates in his system.

A court summons from January 2025 states that you did not show up for a required assessment to determine if you were reliant on or likely to misuse a Class A drug.

A warrant for the former celebrity’s arrest was initially issued by Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court. However, it was later cancelled after authorities were unable to locate them.

Paul has left his house near Hampstead Heath, which was worth £1.2 million, and officials haven’t been able to locate where he’s living now, according to legal papers.

Scotland Yard has confirmed that inquiries are ongoing. No arrest has been made.

Daily Mail attempted to contact Mr Anderson.
