Triple M radio legend announces shock departure from network after 16 years
As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Gus Worland’s decision to leave Triple M after 16 years is a testament to his dedication towards mental health advocacy. His commitment to Gotcha4Life is truly inspiring and sets an example for many.
After 16 years, Gus Worland has shared his plans to depart from Triple M towards the end of this year.
55-year-old Worland, once known for being a member of the legendary Grill Team at Triple M, has more recently been the host of The Rush Hour on 104.9 Triple M Sydney. (paraphrased)
Over the past eight years, Worland has been dedicated to his mental wellness charity, Gotcha4Life. Now, he’s made the decision to step away from his radio career and devote himself entirely to advocating for mental health.
At the close of this year, Worland’s last broadcast on Triple M will be aired. As of now, it remains uncertain who will take over his position within the network.
Famous for blending humor and emotional bonding with his audience, the recent announcement by this veteran radio host has left his followers in disbelief.
On Monday, Worland, a longstanding companion of Hugh Jackman, expressed gratitude towards his fellow workers and those behind the scenes upon announcing his departure from the team.
Since my beginnings with Matty Johns, Mark Geyer, and Chris Page, up until now partnering with Jude Bolton and Aaron Woods, I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to collaborate with truly outstanding individuals,” he mentioned.
As a devoted follower, I’d like to express my heartfelt appreciation to the unsung heroes who’ve been diligently working backstage, ensuring our favorite shows continue uninterrupted.
Although he’ll no longer be involved in his regular position at Triple M, rest assured he won’t disappear entirely; you can expect to see him pop up as a special guest on various shows in the future.
Matthew O’Reilly, Head of Triple M Metro Content, praised Worland’s contributions during his 16 years with the network, stating: ‘Gus has been an integral part of the Triple M family for 16 years.
It’s clear that he prioritizes his work with Gotcha4Life, a program significantly enhancing our community. Wishing him continued success, we are confident that he will forever remain a valued part of the Triple M family.
His fans and colleagues have also expressed their admiration and support on social media.
Morning meteorologist Sam Mac commented, ‘Great innings, Gus! You can truly be proud of everything you’ve accomplished, especially your contributions to mental health through Triple M. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing what lies ahead for you with @gotcha4life.’
Comedian Julia Morris responded with, “Contact me when you’re in need of some hearty laughs from the belly. Keep it up!” and Married At First Sight’s Duncan James commented, “Great job! You’re an inspiration, @gusworland.” (or)
During his tenure at Triple M, Gus had exciting opportunities like commentating for their cricket broadcasts, which he took on with great passion.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but brag about my close friendship with the legendary Hugh Jackman. We often share our hilarious stories during his radio show, giving me exclusive access to their entertaining escapades in Hollywood.
In July, Jackman and his fellow star Ryan Reynolds playfully took over a well-known Australian radio station as part of their promotional efforts for Deadpool and Wolverine.
55-year-old Australian actor Hugh Jackman felt let down because it wasn’t possible to squeeze a visit to Australia into his busy press tour schedule for the recently released Marvel action film.
But that didn’t stop him from hilariously surprising his best friend of 50 years Worland live on his Triple M and LiSTNR radio show The Rush Hour.
Initially, Gus along with his previous AFL player partner, Jude Bolton, invited listener phone calls. Suddenly, Hugh, known for his role as Wolverine, joined the conversation from a different part of the line.
The radio personalities burst into laughter when Jackman, during a call, humorously suggested that the only means of communicating with Worland was by phoning him at his job.
Later on, they interrogated Jackman about the identity of his true best friend, as there has been a lot of talk about him and Reynolds, both aged 47, referring to each other as best friends during their publicity tour.
In front of the camera, Jackman emphasized to Worland, “We may appear to be great friends, but off-camera, that’s not exactly how I feel.
To which Worland hit back with: ‘I hope you don’t mean it, I’m getting a bit jealous to be fair.’
Later on, Jackman claimed that he had developed a friendship with Reynolds primarily due to the latter’s substantial wealth.
He quipped: ‘Gussy, I’m not shallow at all, but have you seen how much money Ryan has? It’s like another league!’
Since the age of five, Worland and Jackman have maintained a strong friendship after initially being classmates at Pymble Public School in the 1970s, where they were partnered by their teacher.
Over the past five-plus decades, I’ve had the privilege of maintaining an enduring friendship that’s been enriched by countless shared experiences. Whether it’s spending evenings out or taking trips together during our vacations, we continue to cherish each moment spent in one another’s company.
