Trevor Nelson confirms he will replace Scott Mills in Radio 2 shake up and reveals the real reason he is so excited
As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for recognizing talent, I am thrilled about Trevor Nelson taking over Radio 2’s afternoon show following Zoe Ball’s exit and Scott Mills’ move to the Breakfast Show. With his extensive experience spanning decades in the industry, Trevor has proven time and again that he knows how to captivate audiences with his soulful charm and infectious energy.
Trevor Nelson has officially stepped in to take over Scott Mills’ popular afternoon slot on BBC Radio 2, as Zoe Ball moves on.
For the past eight years, the DJ who’s been on air from 10 pm to midnight, playfully hinted that starting from the end of January, he would be soaking up some ‘sunshine vitamins’, implying a change or break in his routine.
At Trevor Nelson’s Soul Christmas event held at the Royal Albert Hall, he made an announcement: Starting from late January, I’ll be hosting the afternoon show.
‘It’s about time you got your vitamin D, cause I’m doing too many nighttime shows,’ Trevor said.
He expressed his excitement for an awesome upcoming event and invited others to join him. If they choose not to pay attention, he kindly requested that they start doing so instead.

The reorganization comes after it was revealed that Scott Mills is set to replace Zoe Ball on the BBC Radio 2 Morning Program, a position she’s held for six years which she will vacate this month.
In November, the seasoned host, aged 54, announced on air that she was planning to take a step back from her early morning duties to embark on a fresh phase in life and devote more time to her loved ones.
She will be hosting her final segment on December 20th, and starting in early January, Scott, who is 51 years old and currently hosts the Radio 2’s weekday afternoon program from 2 to 4 PM, will take over as the host.
As part of the reshuffle, Trevor will replace Scott’s early afternoon slot.
In his statement, he expressed that it will be fantastic to work during the daytime. He considers it an extraordinary honor for a broadcaster to amuse the nation on the most prominent British radio station each day.
‘I’m looking to have lots of fun and will be bringing a bit of soul to the new show,’ he revealed.
As a devoted enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that my beloved “Five Seconds to Name” game is set to follow me into my upcoming time slot, continuing our artistic journey together.

Trevor kicked off his radio career at London’s Kiss FM back in 1985, and then moved on to BBC Radio 1 in 1996, hosting “The Rhythm Nation,” which was reportedly the country’s first national R&B program, until 2013.
Starting from 2007, he hosted the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 1Xtra. In 2008, he launched a weekly soul and R&B program on Radio 2.
On BBC 1Xtra, every Sunday between 11 am and 1 pm, you’ll find Trevor still presiding over his show, Trevor Goes Old Skool.
Helen Thomas, the head of Radio 2, expressed her excitement about transferring Trevor into the weekday daytime lineup on Radio 2.
‘Trevor, a trailblazer in the world of radio, has earned the affection of his audience, and I eagerly anticipate him infusing our weekday afternoons with a dash of beloved soul, funk, and R&B,’ she remarked.
Since Trevor has moved to daytime programming, DJ Spoony will step into his previous role hosting the Monday to Thursday night shows instead.
On Mondays through Thursdays, starting at 10 PM and ending at midnight, you’ll find the revamped Good Groove program airing instead of its previous slot on Friday nights from 9 PM to 11 PM.
During his yearly, sell-out holiday concert – broadcast on Radio 2 during Christmas – Trevor welcomed performers such as Kenny Thomas, Karen Sledge, and the Kingdom Choir to the stage with him.
