For a while, it’s been unclear what direction the Transformers movies were heading. However, Steven Caple Jr., who directed Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, has now shared an update. He won’t be directing the next Transformers film, so it probably won’t continue the story from Rise of the Beasts directly.
Just because Caple has stepped away doesn’t mean a crossover between Transformers and G.I. Joe is impossible. A sequel to Rise of the Beasts could still happen, and the idea of bringing those two universes together hasn’t been ruled out.
I definitely have some ideas for what it could become, but we’ll need to wait and see how things develop,” Caple said. “I won’t be involved in the next Transformers movie, but the project is still being worked on, so anything is possible at this point.
