Tragic Twist: Paul Danan’s Final Interview Reveals Near-Miss with Hollywood Stardom

In his last interview before passing away at age 46, Paul Danan shared that he came extremely close to landing a significant role in a popular Hollywood movie.

It is thought that the actor formerly known for his role in Hollyoaks tragically passed away following an accidental fall at a residence in Bristol, which he had been temporarily living at as part of his efforts to overcome addiction. He was subsequently buried on January 21st.

Just prior to his sudden passing, Paul shared insights from his extensive career during a conversation with the Outlet Ten Discussion Podcast.

In our conversation, it came to light that Paul was part of the 2003 blockbuster, “Cheaper By The Dozen.” He mentioned his excitement about working alongside stars such as Steve Martin and Hilary Duff in this production.

In an unexpected turn of events, despite initial casting, the actor from Hollyoaks was let go at the very end, eventually leading to Ashton Kutcher being chosen by director Shawn Levy for the role instead.

Paul reminisced: “I secured a role in Steve Martin’s movie titled ‘Cheaper by the Dozen.’ I was supposed to portray the girlfriend of one of the daughters, but before I could start, the director unexpectedly met Ashton Kutcher!

After completing the movie “Just Married” alongside Brittany Murphy, he was approached by the director who mentioned, “By chance, there’s an English actor in the mix. But if you’re interested, Ashton, I could arrange for you to take the role instead?

Later, Ashton said, “Sure, I can help out.” Then, I received a call from them, and they explained, “Paul, we truly apologize, we understand our promise to you, but it’s Ashton Kutcher, after all!” (Informal)

During the podcast, when host Anne-Marie questioned whether Paul felt everything occurs for a purpose, he pondered and replied, “Well, I must admit, that one’s tough for me.

Oh my goodness, I was destined to collaborate with the legendary Steve Martin! Can you believe it? I remember calling up my mom in sheer excitement, practically shouting into the phone, “Guess who I just worked with? STEVE MARTIN, of course!” It felt surreal, like a dream come true.

Feeling quite low, I found myself in an environment filled with excessive drug use, endless parties, a surge of fitness enthusiasts, and an overwhelming number of people who seemed to have it all together. Alone in this sea of perfection, I struggled to keep up.

‘I didn’t have anyone and I was so lonely and it was hard man.’ 

Paul, a graduate from the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, portrayed the character Sol on Hollyoaks from 1997 to 2001. In 1999, he was nominated for the prestigious title of Best Actor at the Inside Soap Awards.

In April 2001, Paul’s last appearances on Hollyoaks were broadcasted. This was during the time when Sol left the town, following accusations that he had attempted to harm Steve, who is Jess Holt’s brother and not his girlfriend, contrary to the initial statement.

When asked about his departure from the series, Paul expressed contentment with how his character’s storyline concluded. He appreciated that they chose not to end his life but instead left room for a possible future appearance. Paul explained that Sol didn’t engage in violence or illegal activities; rather, he merely protected his girlfriend. This absence of negative actions suggests that there might be an opportunity for him to reappear someday.

Initially, Paul revealed his decision to leave Hollyoaks as a means to escape being stereotyped, and expressed aspirations for a career in the glamorous world of Hollywood.

In the city of Los Angeles, Paul shared with TopMob his frequent observation of actors holding down regular jobs at McDonald’s between roles, as they waited for their next major opportunity. Meanwhile, Paul himself found employment in such a role temporarily to supplement his income.

I used to work at a shop named “I Fixed It,” a place designed to help you out when unfortunate accidents happen, like when you accidentally drop your iPhone or any other phone, causing the screen to shatter. Fortunately, our team is skilled in repairing such damage for you.

About a decade past, I had been employed there briefly. It served as a source of extra income at the time.

2005 saw Paul gaining widespread attention due to his scandalous participation in Celebrity Love Island, an event he later acknowledged as being instrumental in propelling him to unprecedented levels of celebrity status.

He shared with The Dozen podcast, “I’ve never experienced fame quite like this. Nothing prepared me for the level of madness I’ve seen during these past six weeks. Compared to my four-year stint on a soap opera, it’s been an entirely different experience in terms of the magnitude of fame.

My acting career didn’t progress due to a sudden shift in attitude; casting directors started saying things like “We don’t want to hire a reality star!” It seemed like they looked down on me, as if they didn’t want to cast someone who had been on a reality show and were more interested in seeing me in a different context, rather than just recognizing me from Love Island.

As a die-hard enthusiast, I must confess that the past misstep didn’t exactly propel my acting career forward; quite the contrary, it set me back significantly. And though the passage of time has certainly healed some wounds, I can’t help but wonder if my reputation has ever truly been restored to its former glory.

Following our encounter on Celebrity Love Island, I found myself joining forces with Calum Best, Fran Cosgrove, and others for a spin-off show called “Calum, Fran, and Dangerous Danan.” It was an exciting new chapter in my reality TV journey!

2017 saw Paul participating on Celebrity Big Brother, sharing the screen with Sam Thompson, Amelia Lily, and Sarah Harding.

In my line of work, I often keep tabs on upcoming projects, and one that particularly piqued my interest was a gripping drama titled Bloody Love. Sadly, it was fate that took the talented actor Paul before he could bring this character to life – as he had already signed up for the role, which is now in the pre-production phase.

According to IMDb, the plot summary goes like this: ‘A group of teenagers are left grief-stricken after one of their friends is tragically killed.’

A year has passed, but the mystery remains unresolved. Each of them becomes a person of interest. Hidden truths emerge, and the noose around the murderer’s neck tightens further.
