Tragic Loss: Michelle Trachtenberg’s Boyfriend Was Her Rock Before Shocking Death at 39
Michelle Trachtenberg spent time with her boyfriend agent Jay Cohen ahead of her death.
In 2019, Cohen, aged 63, who represented Michelle at the Gersh Agency, began dating the actress famously known from Gossip Girl.
According to a source, she remains in a relationship with her boyfriend, whom she holds in high regard and speaks of affectionately. They appear to share a strong bond and enjoy a harmonious relationship.
Cohen was ‘a huge support system’ for Trachtenberg the outlet added.
On February 26, the mother of the actress famously known for playing Buffy the Vampire Slayer discovered her unresponsive in their apartment in New York City.
Because of their religious beliefs, it was decided not to perform an autopsy on her, which means the precise reason for her demise will remain a mystery.
Michelle sent warm Valentine’s Day greetings to Cohen earlier this month through an Instagram post, saying “Happy Valentine’s Day to the one who allows me to capture his likeness”, accompanied by a photo of them dressed as Jekyll and Hyde for Halloween.
She had undergone a liver transplant months before her sudden death.
The actress from Gossip Girl kept private about her health matters, yet it was revealed that she underwent a liver transplant due to longstanding problems linked with excessive alcohol consumption. It is speculated that she might have faced health complications leading up to her passing.
A staff member at the restaurant disclosed to DailyMail.com that during Trachtenberg’s last visit, she was incredibly unwell and struggled significantly while descending the staircase in the restaurant.

It was Thursday February 20th, less than a week before the Harriet the Spy star was found dead.
On Wednesday, a worker remarked that she appeared extremely ill, almost as if she was gravely ailing, while choosing to remain anonymous in their statement.
‘She was very slim, almost miniature, making it difficult for her to navigate down the stairs. Her demeanor wasn’t particularly cheerful, and it didn’t leave a positive first impression.’

Police said there is no foul play suspected in her death.
On Wednesday, the 26th of February, 2025, around 8:01 AM, the police received an emergency call about someone needing help at 1 Columbus Place, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Midtown North Precinct, as stated by the authorities.
When they arrived, officers found a 39-year-old woman who was unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to the scene and declared her dead.
There’s no indication of criminal activity at this time. The Medical Examiner will identify the reason for the demise. The investigation continues.
In the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” which aired from 2000 to 2003, Michelle Trachtenberg is most recognized for portraying Dawn Summers, Buffy’s (Sarah Michelle Gellar) younger sister.
Additionally, she portrayed the character Georgina Sparks, known as ‘The Witch of the Upper East Side,’ on the show Gossip Girl, sharing screen time with actors like Blake Lively and Leighton Meester from 2008 to 2012.

In a heartfelt statement, Harriet The Spy’s co-star, Rosie O’Donnell, expressed her deep sorrow over the passing of Trachtenberg. She shared, “Harriet was someone I cared deeply for. Lately, she faced many challenges. If only there was something I could have done to assist her.
2023 saw Michelle returning to her character for a total of two episodes in the concluding season of HBO Max’s updated version of Gossip Girl.
