As an ardent fan, I am deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Angel Salazar, who brought Chi Chi to life in the iconic film Scarface. His portrayal of the resilient soldier not only added depth to the story but also left a lasting impact on me and countless others.

In the days prior to his passing, actor Angel Salazar – famously known for portraying Al Pacino’s character Chi Chi in the 1983 crime movie Scarface – had been working on a fresh spin-off production.

The Cuban-American actor passed away at the age off 68, his rep announced on Sunday.

Eric Spade Rivas informed TMZ that Salazar was in the middle of shooting ‘The Brooklyn Premiere’ when he passed away.

In April, he expressed exhaustion while filming in New Jersey at that time, but intended to capture additional scenes in Miami towards the end of the year.

The film tells the story of a director from Brooklyn experiencing a midlife crisis, who attempts to rejuvenate his career by creating a humorous take on the classic movie “Scarface.”

Salazar was set to appear alongside Steven Bauer, who plays Manny Ribera in the original film.

Eric paid tribute to late star, saying he is one of the funniest people he has ever met.

The Instagram account for the upcoming movie shared a video featuring Salazar alongside the film’s cast and crew members.

‘Sorry to have to even post this, but this is for Ángel who passed away,’ a statement read.

Everyone who knew you cherished you and will fondly recall the joy you brought them, as well as all that you shared with them – every joke, every story – particularly those about director Di Palma. A part of me will miss those moments… but at least we began the making of Scarface together.

While Salazar’s cause of death has not been released, he was dealing with heart problems.

A close associate and acquaintance of his, Ann Wingsong, informed TMZ that a friend went to visit Salazar and discovered him unresponsive in his bed.

In the movie, Salazar portrayed a partner-in-crime to Tony Montana’s drug lord character played by Pacino. The film also featured Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, F. Murray Abraham, as well as the late actors Paul Shenar and Robert Loggia.

In the plot of the film, Chi Chi stepped in to help Montana when he was viciously attacked with a chainsaw during a failed drug transaction.

In another instance, Chi Chi found herself sitting beside Montana, during a part where it was revealed that he was involved in money laundering.

In the climactic scene of the film, Chi Chi meets his end when he is fatally wounded by gunfire from a band of assailants linked to Alejandro Sosa, Chi Chi’s adversary in Scarface.

Before landing his defining role in a Brian De Palma film, he had already starred in movies like “A Stranger Is Watching” (1982), “Where the Buffalo Roam” (1980), “Walk Proud” (1979) and “Boulevard Nights” (1979).

Among other notable films, Salazar appeared in Sylvester (1985), Maniac Cop 2 (1990), Punchline alongside Tom Hanks (also in 1988), Hot to Trot, and Carlito’s Way (1993). This latter film marked a reunion with director De Palma and actor Pacino for Salazar.

Apart from that, he was a frequent guest on various television programs including On Our Own, The New Street Series, Jersey Mafia Chronicles, and In Living Color.

Apart from his acting career, Salazar was also well-versed in stand-up comedy, having featured in several HBO specials and making an appearance on the show Last Comic Standing.

According to iMDb, Salazar had 17 varied projects at various stages of production as of Sunday.
