Tragic Death of Paul Danan: A Star Laid to Rest Amid Heartbreaking Circumstances
At Paul Danan‘s funeral held on Tuesday, some of his ex-cast members from Hollyoaks were present as they paid their respects.
In Bristol, it’s thought that the actor, aged 46, passed away following an accident where he apparently fell and sustained fatal injuries at a residence commonly known as a “dry house,” which he was using as a place to seek sobriety.
Paul was buried at Waltham Abbey, and Shane Lynch, a member of the band Boyzone, was among those who participated in the service.
Additionally, Paul’s fellow actors from the TV show “Hollyoaks” were also present at the funeral – Terri Dwyer, portraying Ruth Osborne, and James Redmond, known for his role as Rory Finnigan.
It’s thought that Paul had an accidental fall at the high-end apartment complex close to Bristol, where he was temporarily residing.
It’s believed that the mishap occurred during a time when the actor was brimming with optimism about returning to television, following his successful recovery and preparation for a new start.
Beloved Paul, who had recently turned things around in his life, found himself as a potential contestant on a widely-adored dating program, and he felt hopeful about the prospect.
On Wednesday evening, neighbors shared accounts of an ambulance being dispatched to a flat close to Bristol, yet unfortunately, paramedics were unable to revive the celebrity.
Paul, previously seen on Love Island and Celebrity Big Brother, had been scheduled for a court appearance the next day, facing charges related to the ownership of Class A narcotics.
Approximately seven months ago, Paul shared on a podcast that he had been residing in a “dry house” located in Bristol, which is speculated to be the £392,000 apartment where his body was later discovered.
This Grade II-listed building, once a part of an old Georgian mental health institution, offers a variety of amenities including a swimming pool, fitness center, and tennis court. It also comes with approximately 10 acres of surrounding land.
Additionally, we find Judith Kim Skelton, aged 46, a professional life coach focusing on mental health, residing at the one-bedroom apartment as well.
Danan’s neighbours said he ‘kept himself to himself’ in his first-floor apartment.
One informed TopMob: ‘He wasn’t well-known among us; it seems no one in this area recognized him until his passing. His relatives have resided here, and they requested that we keep quiet about the matter.’
A neighbor mentioned they spotted an ambulance near the common entryway of the gated manor in Bristol.
She mentioned: ‘Later on, I discovered that the gentleman residing in the apartment had passed away. I hadn’t known him before, and it’s quite unfortunate.’
Avon and Somerset Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
People who live nearby mentioned that they believed Paul was residing alone at the apartment where he was struggling with his battle against addiction.
Previously, Judith served as the head of a firm named “Morning After Drama.” Every Monday evening, Paul would deliver speeches to his peers battling addiction at a gathering spot in Bristol.
On LinkedIn, Judith presents herself as a compassionate and individual-focused professional, deeply committed to helping people who encounter various and intricate obstacles by providing them with guidance and coaching.
As a committed advocate, I too play a vital role in the leadership team at Morning After Drama. This unique organization offers guided improvisation workshops for individuals navigating life’s challenges, such as trauma, addiction, self-doubt, and mental health struggles.
Last summer, I found myself immersed in a captivating YouTube series called “Love Island, Escapades, Addictions.” In one of the episodes, a fellow enthusiast named Paul shared his personal story. He recounted how he was initiated into the world of cocaine and eventually moved on to using crystal meth and heroin.
In the midst of my battles with addiction during lockdown, I’ve resolved to embark on a journey to Bristol. There, I plan to reside in a sober living environment, a crucial step for me as I strive to maintain my recovery and be surrounded by individuals who, like myself, are also navigating their own recovery journeys.
Paul, known for his role as Sol Patrick on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, expressed his desire to instruct drama to adults while continuing his career in acting, scriptwriting, and film direction.
Last year on October 2nd, a celebrity from reality TV was pulled over by the police in an area close to Warrington, Cheshire, when he was behind the wheel of his Fiat 500.
He faced two charges for cocaine possession and one for drug-impaired driving, scheduled to appear at Warrington Magistrates Court the following day, but unfortunately passed away the day prior.
The court hearing has been postponed until February, at which time they’ll receive news about his unfortunate demise.
The local coroner for Avon has been informed about Paul’s passing, and they will determine whether an inquiry (inquest) will take place after conducting an autopsy.
In his last conversation, Paul shared that following his departure from Hollyoaks, he faced difficulties finding acting roles, so instead, he took up a job at a mobile phone store, fixing screens, while living with his parents due to the struggle.
From 1997 to 2001, the actor gained widespread recognition for portraying the character Sol Patrick, the notorious “bad boy,” on Channel 4’s most popular daytime drama series.
Just before Christmas, he shared with TopMob his regret for departing from Hollyoaks in an attempt to make it big in Hollywood. He expressed his discomfort with being stereotyped as a soap opera actor and feared becoming known as “another Ken Barlow.
However, the disappointment he faced after being rejected in LA left him yearning for home, eventually leading him astray into a destructive lifestyle dominated by drugs.
He claimed that his career didn’t take off in Hollywood, leading him to participate in Celebrity Love Island instead. However, he felt this decision negatively impacted his future opportunities and criticized the ‘arrogant’ casting directors for not offering him more roles later on.
In 2020, due to becoming homeless, he returned to live with his parents in Essex. Over the years, he had spent around £1 million on rehabilitation and recovery. Lately, he had been residing in Bristol, where he taught students at a drama school as he sought to return to acting.
Last week’s Instagram post from him was essentially a tryout for the role of Duke Orsino in Twelfth Night. While many enthusiasts on social platforms praised his acting, some observed that he seemed somewhat bewildered at certain instances.
Last year, Paul shared his thoughts about departing from the soap with TopMob: “Perhaps I shouldn’t have left Hollyoaks, but at that time, I chose to do so because after spending four years there, I didn’t want to be confined to one character. Back then, no one wanted to be the next Ken Barlow; instead, we sought diverse roles to explore as actors.
Option A: I managed to visit Los Angeles, and it turned out to be quite a fruitful trip. I came close to some major film productions and similar opportunities. However, the one aspect I despise most in life is rejection.
‘I picked the unique job that grants this experience – quite surprising! Yet, I adore it beyond words, feeling privileged to work on set and contribute to this captivating realm. This role perfectly aligns with my lifelong preparation.’
Acting can be quite challenging, and I believe you may not fully appreciate your good fortune if you’re working on a soap opera because it offers one of the most stable acting schedules, resembling a traditional nine-to-five job in this field. However, once you step out there, you realize that, oh my, acting is truly tough!
Yesterday, Paul appeared in court for allegedly possessing cocaine and cannabis and additionally being under the influence of drugs while driving. Not long ago, his health was critical, requiring an oxygen tank due to severe respiratory failure brought on by excessive vaping. His addiction was so strong that he would keep his vape near him even before going to bed.
In LA, Paul shared stories about spotting actors juggling jobs at McDonald’s between auditions, including himself who temporarily worked a regular job to boost his income during that period.
I worked at a shop known as “I Fixed It,” a location that specializes in repairing broken screens on devices such as iPhones or other phones when they accidentally get damaged.
About a decade back, I spent some time working at that place as a means to earn a little extra income on the side.
Describing his diverse professional history, he added: ‘Throughout my career, I’ve held roles in recruitment, Ted Baker, the financial markets during my youth, various clothing retail stores, and more. Needless to say, there are periods of employment when one must also seek other opportunities’.
