Sadly, the American humorist Ray Dejon passed away prematurely, only a few days before he was scheduled to entertain as the main act in a comedy roast to celebrate his birthday.
The comedian passed away on Monday at the age of 63, just one day before his 64th birthday.
Recently, Ray posted a video indicating that he would be hosting a comedy roast at the 275 BK comedy club in Brooklyn, New York City, on his birthday, which falls on a Wednesday, just a few days from now.
Ray conducted interviews with renowned musicians like Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys and established the Laffaholics Comedy Club, Brooklyn’s first comedy club owned by African Americans.
On Monday, it was with great sorrow that video director Ralph McDaniels shared the heartbreaking news about the passing of our Video Music Box family member, Ray, whom we know as @raydejon.
‘My condolences to his entire family. Ray Dejon will be missed.’

On Monday, Ray’s sister, Evelyn Delacruz, expressed her shock over his unexpected demise by saying: “I appreciate all the messages from you, my fellow family members, as well as Ray’s children and relatives. At this heart-wrenching moment, we kindly ask for privacy.
1. “We’ll keep everyone informed about the service dates.”
2. “Everyone is deeply saddened because his birthday is coming up tomorrow.”
In both cases, I have tried to use simpler and more conversational language that maintains the original meaning of your sentences.
‘Sleep in paradise my beautiful brother Ray DeJon Ray DeJon Jr.’
Tributes poured out for the comedian, who was hailed a ‘true giant’ on the NYC comedy scene.
Darn it! Ray, you’ll truly be missed among us. You were a piece of our fabric. May the cosmos embrace you warmly. My deepest sympathies go out to your family.
‘Deep sorrow. My friend Ray has passed away. May his voyage be tranquil.’ or
‘I am at a loss for words. Rest In Peace, dear Ray. Thank you for all the shared moments under the spotlight and for giving so many of us an opportunity to shine.’
I can hardly accept that we’ve said goodbye to our friend Ray DeJon today. I appreciate the friendship you shared and the countless opportunities you gave to others on stage. May you find eternal peace, my dear friend.
On the social media page titled “Comedy In Harlem”, they posted an affectionate remembrance, saying: ‘We’ve lost a towering figure in New York City.’

Ray DeJon was more than just a promoter; he was a bridge between individuals, an advocate for humor, and a stalwart figure within our neighborhood.
Ray carried enthusiasm, humor, and affection with him, spreading these qualities from the ranks of renowned teams to the heart of each district’s streets.
He provided numerous artists with their initial opportunities, and his influence will endure in every microphone test, every humoristic remark, and every space echoing with laughter.
Losing a character like Ray is comparable to losing a rhythmic pulse within the city. He was an exceptional individual, a dependable companion, and a figure whose vibrant essence can never be duplicated or replicated.
Our heartfelt sympathies and profound condolences are extended to his family, close friends, and the entire comedy fraternity during this difficult time.

‘Rest easy, King. You will never be forgotten. Sleep well, Ray DeJon.’
As a die-hard admirer, I’ve learned that Ray, in the past, miraculously overcame a stroke, and even triumphed over his battles with addiction, based on what I’ve read about him in the industry lore.
The humorist shared an account of being unable to move or feel one part of his body after a stroke, but thanks to medication, he’s been able to gradually recover some mobility and sensation.
Behind the scenes, he has collaborated with youth on matters like drug misuse and domestic violence.
