Tracker boss teases heartache for Velma in Season 2 (and we're not ready)

As a long-time fan of gripping, character-driven crime dramas, I find myself eagerly anticipating the return of Tracker Season 2. Velma and Teddi’s love story was one of the highlights of the first season, and their dynamic with Colter was both heartwarming and intriguing.

As Tracker Season 2 is about to begin, we’re eagerly anticipating the unfolding events for all the characters. A hint about Velma’s storyline has been given, and it’s something that leaves us unprepared!

According to a preview on TVLine, showrunner Elwood Reid hinted that character Velma will experience sorrow this season. This sadness stems from the fact that Robin Weigert, who portrays Teddi, Velma’s spouse in the show, won’t be reprising her role.

Indeed, I’d been holding onto the hope that Teddi’s absence would find a plausible explanation, one that wouldn’t shatter Velma’s heart too deeply. Perhaps she was engrossed in some fieldwork or embarking on a fresh entrepreneurial journey. Surely there was an innocent reason for her disappearance, wasn’t there? Alas, it seems my hopes were misplaced.

Will Velma mourn the loss of her wife in Tracker Season 2?

Velma and Teddi were outstanding in the first season as Colter’s caretakers. It’s evident that they hold a strong affection for him, almost like motherly feelings. Occasionally, we glimpsed into their shared life, revealing a deep bond between them. Despite not always seeing eye-to-eye, it was apparent that they loved each other deeply.

If Reid hints at Velma experiencing “sorrow” this year, it seems more like Teddi might be taking a permanent leave rather than voluntarily departing from Velma’s life. The scenario I envision is one where an off-screen event leads to Teddi’s demise, and we’ll witness Velma grieving over the loss.

This development could provide us with additional moments spent with Velma, offering insights into her character, and potentially showcasing the encounter where young Velma meets and falls in love with Teddi for the first time.

We will get to understand Velma and Colter’s relationship more as she figures out her future.

One of the goals is going to be understanding what her genesis with Colter was, and what she thinks her role could be going forward.

In addition, we’ll witness the blossoming friendship between Velma and Reenie, given that Reenie embarks on her entrepreneurial journey. Notably, these characters have had limited interactions beyond Colter, which sets this series apart from many others. The introduction of character interactions outside their usual circle adds an intriguing new dimension to the show, a shift that will be essential as we bid farewell to Teddi.

Tracker Season 2 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 13 on CBS.
