Trace Esports upsets Leviatán to win Group C at VALORANT Champions 2024
As a seasoned gamer who has followed VALORANT esports since its inception, I have to admit that I was taken aback by the performance of Trace Esports at this year’s Champions. I had them down as a dark horse team, but their victory over Leviatán in Group C was nothing short of spectacular!
Alert! Victory Announcement! The Trace Esports team has emerged victorious in Group C of the VALORANT Champions 2024 tournament, having defeated Leviatán from the VCT America region.
If you predicted that Trace Esports would win Group C in your Pick’Ems, it suggests either you were deceiving or exceptionally insightful. Regardless of whether you’re a trickster or a genius, the Chinese team indeed emerged victorious from their group during VALORANT Champions 2024. In a surprising turn of events, Trace Esports managed to outperform titans Leviatán in the competition, securing a spot in the playoffs.

From a broader perspective, VALORANT esports in China is relatively fresh compared to other regions. Notably, teams like Edward Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix have garnered recognition within their league.
In the ongoing VALORANT Champions 2024 competition, another team, Trace Esports, has joined the discussion. This could potentially be the start of an incredible run for them in Group C, as they’ve just knocked out a heavily favored team, Leviatán, to claim the top spot in the group stage.
In the series, Trace emerged victorious by scores of 2:1, with wins on Bind, Sunset, and Ascent. The initial maps were fairly tight, but on Ascent, they clearly demonstrated their dominance with a decisive score of 13:5. Interestingly, only one player from Leviatán managed to exceed an ACS of 190 in that final map.
With that win, the team, which had been largely underestimated, catapulted itself into stardom. Remarkably, they didn’t rely on any showy tactics. Instead, they focused on their game, did thorough research on their opponent, adjusted their strategies, and effectively neutralized them.
Who are Trace Esports?
The team itself that took down Leviatán consists of:
- Song “FengF” Xuefeng
- Ho “heybay” Shun-hei
- Lu “Kai” Zhinan
- Zhang “LuoK1ng” Zhanpeng
- Zhong “Biank” Jianfei
Several newcomers on their team made their debut this season, and when they began Stage 2 of the VCT China tournament, they swiftly defeated FPX not once but twice. This impressive performance secured them the third seed for Trace Esports in the VALORANT Champions competition.
1. From thereon, events took a familiar course. It’s worth noting that Biank isn’t new to unexpected victories. He was part of the 2023 Bilibili Gaming squad in Los Angeles at Champions. This team managed to beat NRG not once, but twice – with their second win being decisive and eliminating them from the tournament.
